 1931 Nicolas Catalog of Wines, Paris

Printed by the renowmed Draeger in Paris, this is one of many fine Christmas catalogs produced for France's premier wine merchant Nicolas. Starting in the late 1920's Nicolas commissioned fine artists of the day to illustrate and design graphics for these beautiful publications....this edition is one of the most attractive with its designs (text & drawings) by A. M. Cassandre. Measures 7.25 X 9 inches. 24 pages plus covers & end pages. Soft board covers.. Silver embossed front end page which shows through the star cut out on cover. Grand double page center illustration. Two versions of the Nicolas character 'Nectar'. Includes two typical catalog inserts. Minor wear, including one 3/16 tear at edge of back cover. No cellophane jacket. Stunning! Cond. 9/10

 19th Century Steel Engraving "THE VINTAGE" by Thomas Stothard

Beautiful & sensuous steel engraving depicting a 'Bacchanal' during the vintage in Arcadia. Thomas Stothard ("T. STOTHARD, R.A. PINXT", lower left edge below engr.), 1755-1834, born in London, & studied at the Royal Academy commencing in 1778. The engraving was rendered by T. Garner ("T. GARNER. SCULPT." lower right below engr.). The engraved scene measures 7 3/4 X 10 1/8 inches on a sheet measuring approx. 9 X 12 inches. Matted with white archival board. EXC condition with minor signs of age.

 THE VINE DRESSERS MANUAL, an Illustrated Treatise on Vineyards And Wine-Making, by Charles Reemelin of Ohio, New York 1858

Reemelin's popular manual for which the first edition was printed in 1855 by A.O. Moore, Agricultural Publisher, New York. 103 pages with 13 page catalog of other "Agiculture and Horticulture" books published by A. O. Moore at rear of book. Contents include: "Names of the various parts of which the Vine is composed", "Location and Soil", "Preparation of the Ground", "The Propogation and Multiplication of Vines", Vines on Trellises", etc...19 subjects covered in all. Profusely illustrated with line drawings.

Fading & some spots to the cloth boards. Some edge & corner wear. Measures 5 1/4 X 7 3/4 X 1/2 inches. Some stains & discoloration to interior pages. Overall condition VG.

 Postcard: "Winehaven near Pt. Richmond, Cal."

Beautiful chromolithograph arial view of the California Wine Association's main wine making & storage facility which was built in the Fall of 1907 to replace facilities lost in the 1906 earthquake and fire. Marked on verso "Published by Richard Behrendt, San Francisco, Cal - Printed in Germany". Unused, divided back. Measures 3 3/8 X 5 3/8 inches. Condition EXC.

Rare self-framed postcard with a view of the Tubbs Wine Cellar's magnificent stone facade - now the well known Chateau Montelena, just north of Calistoga on Tubbs Lane. Postmarked "1911". Also marked on back: "Photo Turrill & Miller" & Pub. for C. W. Armstrong, Calistoga, Cal. Made in Germany.. Frame & oval with photo are embossed. Minor edge & corner wear. 3 1/2 X 5 1/12 inches. Great card. Condition FN.

Attractive tinted photo with a bird's eye view of the California Winery touting their brand name of wines, "Cordova". Circa 1905. Note the railroad lines which are adjacent to the winery. Very clean card. 3 3/8 X 5 inches. Not a common card. Condition EXC.
