Our Anglican Heritage...
Holy Trinity Cathedral is the mother church in the Diocese of
Delmarva, a member parish of the
Anglican Province of America a
body of Anglicans faithful to orthodox understanding of Holy Scripture and the
teaching of the Church. Like all Anglican churches the APA traces its
roots in English Christianity that dates to at least the 2nd century A.D.
The APA was formed in 1968 as a positive response to the drift away from
orthodox Anglicanism taking place in the Episcopal Church. Though the APA
has been considered a part of what is called the "Continuing Anglican" movement,
it has always sought to be a mission of Christ and the gospel, versus a
fellowship of exiles from the Episcopal Church. Part of that mission
has involved playing a major role in the ongoing efforts to bring unity to all
orthodox Anglicans in the U.S., especially through establishing a number of
Concordats of
Intercommunion and the work of the Federation of Anglican
Churches in the Americas.
The
Federation of Anglican
Churches in the Americas, was formed in 2006 to provide a vehicle for communication,
fellowship and cooperation between the various Anglican Jurisdictions
in the Americas. FACA exists "in obedience to our Lord's command that
His people be one, envisions faithful Anglican Churches working together in
communion to fulfill the Great Commission.
FACA has recently affiliated with another network of orthodox Anglican churches known as
the
Common Cause Partnership.
The mission of the CCP is as follows:
We intend, by God's grace...
to partner together in a renewed missionary effort in North
America and beyond, driven by our passion for Jesus and His
Gospel.
to ensure an orthodox Anglican Province in North America
that remains connected to a faithful global Communion.
to create a unity in the essentials of our Anglican faith
that respects our varied styles and expressions.
to build trusting relationships marked by effective
coordination, collaboration, and communication.
Holy Trinity, therefore, is part of a communion
of churches that longs to see the Church united as Jesus prayed in
John 17 that the gospel might go forward throughout the world.
