Notes:
(1) The Lighthouse was built to mark Isle au Haut Harbor.  The sheltered harbor was readily accessible to the local fishing grounds.

In 1907, a 40-feet brick tower supported by a granite foundation with a wooden walkway and 2 1/2-story wood Keeper’s house was built.  The last traditional style Lighthouse is similar to the Ram Island and Marshall Point Lighthouses.  Isle au Haut Light was First Lit on Dec 30, 1907 exhibiting a Flashing Red light every 4 seconds 48-feet above sea level illuminated by a Fourth-order Fresnel Lens.

(2) White Sector (from 34° to 60°) covers fairway to Isle au Haut Thorofare.

(3) The original Fourth-order Fresnel Lens is on display at the Shore Village Museum, Rockland, Maine.

(4) Original Fog Signal was a Bell with striking machinery integral to tower.

(5) In 1934, the Keeper’s House became a Private Residence after the Lighthouse was automated.

In 1998, the Lighthouse was transferred to the Town of Isle au Haut under the Maine Lights Program and the active optic continues to be maintained by the Coast Guard.  The lighthouse was completely restored in 1999 after funding was raised by residents of Isle Au Haut.

(6) In 1986, Jeff and Judi Burke refurbished the keeper’s house as a bed and breakfast inn.

From May to October, the Inn offers a solitude vacation retreat with no electricity and telephone in five guest bedrooms with extraordinary views.  Local attractions include a wilderness area under the Acadia National Park System and a fishing village.  Activities include biking, hiking, and ocean swimming.
