4-FEB-2003:
The JagLink 2 is shipping!!!
50 units are available for immediate shipment. 75 more are ready
to be assembled if demand warrants. Please see the "Order" page
for information on how to order. The price has been set at $30.00,
plus $3.85 for priority shipping in the USA (shipping to other countries
will vary).
16-JAN-2003:
We've settled on the JagLink 2+ design (and renamed
it simply the JagLink 2). Parts have been ordered about two months
ago, and we are still waiting for their delivery.
28-SEP-2002:
I've posted some pictures of the JagLink 2 in
it's case.
Going forward, I've pretty much settled on the
JagLink 2+ design rather than the JagLink Hub-4 design. I think
this is better for a couple of reasons:
- You only need to buy for as many Jaguars as
you plan on networking up.
- The JagLink 2+ will be compatible with the
original JagLink (this isn't possible with the JagLink Hub-4).
This means no swapping cables to play Doom, for example.
I've ordered parts for the JagLink 2+ design.
After they come in I'll verify everything and then order new PCBs.
After they come in I'll start testing. So it will be a least a few
weeks before I expect to have any news.
21-SEP-2002:
JagLink 2 PCBs and parts are in and are working.
Testing has been successful running Battlesphere on three Jaguars.
It is somewhat surprising that this does indeed work, because the
JagLink 2 has no mechanism to correct the Jaguar's UART bug. Because
of this, it is unlikely that the JagLink 2 will be offered for sale.
The design is done for both the JagLink 2+ and
JagLink Hub-4, which both have a mechanism to correct the Jaguar's
UART bug. However, we only intend to continue work on one of these
devices (since they are really redundant in function). This is where
I need your help! Help me decide which you would rather see -- drop
me an email with your vote....
- JagLink 2+: Networks Jaguars in a daisy-chained
fashion. This will most likely will be cheaper, but requires one
device per Jaguar
- JagLink Hub-4: Networks Jaguars in a hub fashion.
This will most likely be more expensive, but only one device is
necessary per 4 Jaguars (or per 3 Jaguars when it is daisy-chained
to other JagLink Hub-4s).
Disclaimer: The mechanism to correct the Jaguar's
UART bug is unproven at this point. It is expected to work, but
it may not work and it may never work. Additionally, somehow we
have got to figure out a way to bring out the bug so that we can
be sure we have fixed it!
