This will be a genetealogy surname project (combining genetics with genealogy) that is being created to determine the unique Y-DNA chromosome markers for various Denney,
Denny family
groups around the globe (some of which, at least for the USA, have been tentatively sorted out on paper on the RootsWeb Denney List). This project will determine if the descendants of various Denny immigrants had any common male ancestors in England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland, or France in the last 300-600 years, and eventually, if possible, determine their ancestral home villages or regions in Europe. We will also explore possible connections with existing Denny lines in Europe. If we are successful in this venture (getting all of the major Denney/Denny lines in the USA tested for Y-DNA), there will come a day in the future when most any Denney/Denny male will be able to submit his Y-DNA test and we will be able to tell him exactly which Denny line he belongs to.
This surname DNA project was set up to further world-wide Denny/Denney genealogy via the Y-DNA testing process. Individuals from all countries are encouraged to participate.
Richard Denney has promoted the Denney - Denny surname for numerous years through his web pages and GEDCOMs on the Internet, and Bill Denney has collected data for years on several Denny lines, specifically trying to prove out & build on the Samuel Denny line. At this point, we think it would be only natural to further and broaden the Denny surname research through a DNA project which will be administrated by William "BILL" Denney of Vancouver, WA . Richard Denney will be providing the web page, and Bill will be the project administrator.
"GENETEALOGY"
OK, genetealogy is not a word, but it will be when Webster gets on the ball! As it stands now, it represents genetic genealogy & this is exactly where we are heading here with the Denney DNA project.
We will be experiencing growing pains as we all discover more about DNA testing (as we use it to prove/disprove conventional; Denny paper genealogy trails). Please bear with us and help where you can to help us keep this web site and data therein accurate and easy to use. Feel free to give us suggestions for improving this service and the web site.
PLEASE NOTE:
If the costs of testing are of concern to you, consider the family plan. Several members of your family could pool or contribute money to have one male member tested.
LADIES:
Do not be left out. If you want to pursue DNA testing for your Denny line, recruit a father, brother, paternal grandfather, paternal uncle or a male cousin with the Denney or variant surname to be tested.

We will be using DNA Heritage and Family Tree DNA for our Denny/Denney DNA Project testing laboratories. Please pay them a visit and get acquainted with their procedures and pricing. Visit their tutorial pages to learn more about their testing procedures. DNA Heritage is a little less expensive for some DNA tests while Family Tree DNA has far more types of additional DNA tests available and more tools for analyzing your test results. We recommend that you take either the 37-marker or 59-marker Y-DNA test at Family Tree DNA or the 43-marker Y-DNA test at DNA Heritage for your Denny surname study.
