At the end of the 1978-79 season the Jazz announced plans to move from New Orleans to Salt Lake City, Utah. The community embraced the team having been left hungry for professional basketball since the Utah Stars had closed their doors years earlier.
While never having won an NBA championship, the Utah Jazz have made it to the finals twice behind players like John Stockton, Karl Malone, and Jeff Hornacek.
