James Edward Mist (Stents Glove Factory)
was born on the 9th of
August 1903 in Bedhampton and was married in 1928 in Maldon,
Essex to Mable Brown. Mable was born on the 9th of
April 1904 in Forest Gate, London. James and Mable lived
at Crossway, in Havant. James died on the 4th of September
1972. Mable died on the 5th of June 1975.
"James Mist was quite a well known character in Havant.
He started an independant church [Brethren meeting] at the
British Legion Hall which I remember attending on many
occasions. With the passage of time and the death of my
Grandfather, this church ceased. He is remembered with much
affection by many people in the Havant area as a preacher of
God's word, in particular having helped organise a Dick Saunders
Tent Campaign during which many people especially in the Leigh
Park area became Christians. For about Ten years He and my
parents with others ran a Sunday school at Trosnant School
because the numbers were so great! Unheard of nowadays.
Granny Mist [EA Jennings] continued to live in West Street and
then moved to Knox Rd to live with my G Aunt Olive
[spinster]. Both Sydney and his son James worked for
Stents the glove and leather goods manufacturers.",
