I don't really know how he slipped through the records though, perhaps there was so much confusion over such a great tragedy. On his death certificate it is clearly written that he was drowned in the Great Storm on 14 Oct. 1881, on the Fishing Boat Perseverance off the Isle of May. His body was never recovered. It is sad that his name does not appear on the list of those lost. He was not married.", Jennifer Rundle.
David Lyle (Fisherman) was born on the 27th of July 1856 in Leith and married in 1880 in Leith to Barbara Liston (Fish Wife). "David was lost at sea in the great storm of 1881 (as highlighted on a plaque at the Newhaven museum). However, at the time of his death his wife Barbara Liston was with child which was born in 1882 and named David Lyle in his memory.", John Lyle (descendant). Seventeen Newhaven fishermen lost their lives in this storm on the 14th of October 1881. A listing of all ships and fishermen who perished in this storm is shown on the internet. Not sure whether or not this is a second christening for the same child born in 1843. An Isaac Flucker married an Ann Young in 1832. He is perhaps Jean Young's brother-in-law, or even step-father. Elizabeth was born on the 13th of February and christened on the 16th of March 1842 in Newhaven to Angus McPherson and Janet Hume.

Looks as if Walter's brother David may have had a second wife and family.
David Lyle and Robina Wilson were still together in the 1851 census, so
if this is the correct David, things would have had to happen fairly quickly,
as David and Jane Lyle had their first child in 1853/54. Need to do some
more checking here.
