Not sure exactly what the link to the Shields family is yet.  Janet Gemmel (60) was from Irvine, and a William Shields married an Isabella Gemmel in Irvine in 1827.  Isabella could be Janet's sister, and William Shields (28) may be their son, and hence Janet's nephew.  Robert Shields married Jean Smith on the 5th of July 1823 in Stewarton, and then a Wylie Ramsay on the 14th of September 1850 in Stewarton.  Wylie Ramsay had previously married a Peter Sillers on the 3rd of February 1824 in Stewarton.
