This stone is erected by Cuthbert, Robert and John Nairn in memory of Jean Robertson their mother, died 24th Nov.1783 age 54 years. Also Cuthbert Nairn, their father, farmer in Blockhillhead died 25th Dec. 1796 age 77 years. Also Janet, James and Janet.

On reverse-

"Sacred to the memory of Cuthbert Nairn, farmer in Bloakhillhead, died 11th Nov. 1844 age 85 years."

  1. Janet Nairn was christened on the 30th of January 1752 in Bloakhillhead, Stewarton.  A Janet Iron of Block was buried in Stewarton on the 19th of September 1760.
  2. James Nairn was christened on the 26th of May 1754 in Bloakhillhead, Stewarton.  James may have married a Janet Harper on the 14th of November 1782 in Stewarton.  (verify)
  3. Jean Nairn was christened on the 18th of December 1757 in Bloak, Stewarton and married on the 16th of June 1787 in Stewarton to John Gemmel.
  4. Cuthbert Nairn was christened on the 23rd of December 1759 in Stewarton and married on the 8th of December 1787 in Stewarton to Janet Dunop.
  5. Robert Nairn was christened on the 9th of September 1762 in Bloakhillhead, Stewarton. According to the James Nairn's (1788) Bible, Robert was 18 years in Brae, Stewarton.  Went to West Blantyre where he kept a ferry boat on the River Clyde.  He may have had four wives.

  6. Robert was married on the 5th of January 1788 in Stewarton to Mary Templeton. Robert was then married on the 19th or 26th of November 1790 in Fenwick to Agnes Templeton. Robert then was married on the 25th of August 1795 in Stewarton to Mary Robertson.  Mary was buried on the 31st of August 1796 in Stewarton. Robert then was married on the 22nd of January 1798 in Stewarton to Janet McDonald.
  7. John Nairn was christened on the 19th of August 1764 in Bloakhillhead, Stewarton and married on the 3rd or 18th of April 1794 in Stewarton to Jean Bone.  They lived in Kirkwood Farm close to Bloakhillhead.  John died in 1834 in Paisley.  According to James Nairn's (1788) Bible, John was a mason, made 200 pounds, took Kirkwood Farm, then Waterside at Beith.  Became a mason again in Paisley.

Cuthbert signed a will on the 20th of May 1834 and again on the 6th of March 1846. (Chip Rowe)

Bloakhillhead (sometimes called Blockhillhead) is a farm about 3 miles west of Stewarton town center. It was in the Nairn family in the 1700s and West Bloakhillhead still belonged to them in the 1891 census.
