This stone is erected by Cuthbert, Robert and John Nairn in memory of Jean Robertson their mother, died 24th Nov.1783 age 54 years. Also Cuthbert Nairn, their father, farmer in Blockhillhead died 25th Dec. 1796 age 77 years. Also Janet, James and Janet.

On reverse-

"Sacred to the memory of Cuthbert Nairn, farmer in Bloakhillhead, died 11th Nov. 1844 age 85 years."

1. Janet Nairn was christened on the 30th of January 1752 in Bloakhillhead, Stewarton.  A Janet Iron of Block was buried in Stewarton on the 19th of September 1760.
2. James Nairn was christened on the 26th of May 1754 in Bloakhillhead, Stewarton.  James may have married a Janet Harper on the 14th of November 1782 in Stewarton.  (verify)
3. Jean Nairn was christened on the 18th of December 1757 in Bloak, Stewarton and married on the 16th of June 1787 in Stewarton to John Gemmel.
   • John Gemmel was born on the 18th of August 1800 in Kilmarnock.
4. Cuthbert Nairn was christened on the 23rd of December 1759 in Stewarton and married on the 8th of December 1787 in Stewarton to Janet Dunop.
5. Robert Nairn was christened on the 9th of September 1762 in Bloakhillhead, Stewarton. According to the James Nairn's (1788) Bible, Robert was 18 years in Brae, Stewarton.  Went to West Blantyre where he kept a ferry boat on the River Clyde.  He may have had four wives.

Robert was married on the 5th of January 1788 in Stewarton to Mary Templeton.
• Jean Nairn was christened on the 25th of March 1789 in Stewarton.
Robert was then married on the 19th or 26th of November 1790 in Fenwick to Agnes Templeton.
• Agnes Nairn was born on the 1st and christened on the 6th of August 1791 in Brae, Stewarton.  Mother's name given as Agnes Templeton here.  Agnes was married on the 24th of March 1815 in Beith to Peter Rae (Farmer, Labourer) of Shotts, Lanarkshire.  They lived at Lochfaulds, Beith, Ayrshire.   Agnes died of bronchitis in New Street, Beith on the 16th of May 1861 at age 68.  A Peter Rae was born on the 1st of April 1792 in Shotts to John Rae and Elizabeth Wark.

  • Peter Rae was born on the 20th of August and christened on the 7th of September 1817 in Beith.
  • Robert Rae was christened on the 4th of June 1820 in Beith.
  • Elizabeth Rae was born on the 24th of October 1827 in Beith.

  • Ann Potter Rae was born on the 14th of November and christened on the 23rd of December 1832 in Beith, Ayrshire.

Robert then was married on the 25th of August 1795 in Stewarton to Mary Robertson.  Mary was buried on the 31st of August 1796 in Stewarton.
• Marion Nairn was born on the 2nd and christened on the 7th of August 1796 in Brae, Stewarton.
Robert then was married on the 22nd of January 1798 in Stewarton to Janet McDonald.
• Janet Nairn was christened on the 5th of January 1799 in Brae, Stewarton.
• Margaret Nairn was born on the 6th and christened on the 11th of May 1800 in Brae, Stewarton.
• John Nairn was born on the 31st of January 1802 in Bloak, Stewarton.  (Twin)
• James Nairn was born on the 31st of January 1802 in Bloak, Stewarton.  (Twin)
• Mary Nairn was christened on the 4th of November 1804 in Riccarton.
6. John Nairn was christened on the 19th of August 1764 in Bloakhillhead, Stewarton and married on the 3rd or 18th of April 1794 in Stewarton to Jean Bone.  They lived in Kirkwood Farm close to Bloakhillhead.  John died in 1834 in Paisley.  According to James Nairn's (1788) Bible, John was a mason, made 200 pounds, took Kirkwood Farm, then Waterside at Beith.  Became a mason again in Paisley.
• Alexander "Sandy" Nairn was christened on the 22nd of January 1795 in Kirkwood, Stewarton.  He later worked in a sugar factory in Greenock.
• John Nairn was christened on the 26th of February 1797 in Kirkwood, Stewarton.
• Cuthbert Nairn was christened on the 31st of March 1799 in Kirkwood, Stewarton.
• Margaret Nairn was born on the 14th and christened on the 17th of May 1801 in Kirkwood, Stewarton and was married on the 30th of June 1823 in High Church, Paisley to John Lennox.
• Jean Lennox was born on the 30th of March and christened on the 18th of April 1824 in High Church, Paisley, Renfrewshire.
• Mary Lennox was born on the 18th of May and christened on the 18th of June 1826 in High Church, Paisley, Renfrewshire.
• Mary Lennox was christened on the 23rd of August 1830 in Middle Church, Paisley, Renfrew.  Not sure if this is a second christening for Mary, or a second child called Mary.
• Cuthbert Nairn (Paper Maker, Overseer at Paper Mills in Dalmuir) was born on the 25th and christened on the 28th of August 1803 in Kirkwood, Stewarton and married on the 6th of March 1829 in Old Kilpatrick, Dunbartonshire to Jean Laing, and remarried on the 5th of May 1857 in Milton, Glasgow, Lanarkshire to Ann Montgomery.  Jean Laing died on the 12th of September 1854 in Dunbartonshire.  Cuthbert and his second wife Ann Montgomery emigrated to Australia aboard the "Annie Wilson", arriving in Melbourne on the 25th of November 1864.  Cuthbert died on the 11th of March 1891 in Ewing Street, Brunswick, Victoria.
  • John Nairn (General Storekeeper) was born on the 29th of June in Dalmuir, christened on the 18th of July 1830 in Old Kilpatrick, Dunbartonshire, and married in 1856 in Castlemaine, Victoria, Australia to Ann Jane "Jane" Wannell.  John died in 1919 in Northcote, Victoria, Australia.  Ann was born around 1823 in Woolwich, Kent, England to Thomas William Wannell and Jane Beck.  Ann was a widow of Joseph William Kidd with two surviving children when she married John. Ann died in 1912 in Euroa, Victoria, Australia.
    • Cuthbert John Nairn was born in 1857 in Hepburn, Victoria, Australia.
    • Isabella Jane Nairn was born in 1860 in Hepburn, Victoria, Australia.  Isabella died in Euchca, Victoria in 1881.
    • Mary Jane Wannell Nairn was born in 1862 in Daylesford, Victoria, Australia and married in 1885 in Victoria to Richard James Carrick of Ireland.
    • John Robert Nairn was born in 1864 in Daylesford, Victoria, Australia.  John died in 1897 in Melbourne.
    • Jessie Nairn was born in 1865 in Daylesford, Victoria, Australia and married in ____ to Walter George Roach.  Jessie died in 1935 in Victoria.
    • Alfred Christopher Nairn was born in 1868 in Daylesford, Victoria, Australia.
  • Jean Nairn was born on the 3rd of December in Dalmuir and christened on the 25th of December 1831 in Old Kilpatrick and married in 1828 in Lanarkshire to Enos Forsyth.  Jean died in 1877 in Victoria, Australia.
  • Cuthbert Nairn (Paper Maker) was born on the 24th of July in Dalmuir, christened on the 13th of August 1833 in Old Kilpatrick, and married on the 8th of June 1855 in Old Kilpatrick to Agnes Dunn.  Cuthbert died after the 11th of March 1891.  Agnes was born on the 10th of February 1834 in Old Kilpatrick to Hugh Dunn and Elizabeth Stirling.  They went on to live at 37 Parsonage Street, Bury, Lancashire.

    • Cuthbert Nairn (Mechanic Iron Fitter) was born on the 12th of August 1857 in Old Kilpatrick.

  • Mary Nairn was born on the 25th of February in Dalmuir and christened on the 5th of April 1835 in Old Kilpatrick and married on the 14th of April 1857 in Hutchesontown, Glasgow, Lanarkshire to James McFarlane.  Mary died in 1917 in Sandringham, Victoria, Australia.
    • Alexander McFarlan was born on the 22nd of September 1857 in Central District, Glasgow, Lanarkshire.
    • Mary McFarlan was born around the 1860s in Australia and married in ____ to Demetrius Gherashe, also of Australia.
      • Theodore Demetrius Gherashe was born on the 4th of January 1885 in Collingwood, Melbourne, Australia and married on the 17th of December 1914 in Melbourne to Beatrice Winckworth Pearson.  Theodore is believed to have remarried in 1919 to Elizabeth Ann Berryman.  Theodore died on the 25th of March 1943 in Brighton, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.
  • Alexander Nairn was born on the 16th of February in Dalmuir and christened on the 15th of March 1837 in Old Kilpatrick.  Alexander died before 11th of March 1891.
  • Robert Nairn was born on the 27th of February in Dalmuir, christened on the 24th of March 1839 in Old Kilpatrick, and married on the 21st of August 1862 in Falkirk to Agnes Boyd Greig.  Robert and Agnes emigrated to Australia in 1864.  Robert died before 19th of May 1917 in Kew, Victoria, Australia.
  • Margaret Nairn was born on the 18th of December 1841 in Dalmuir and christened on the 16th of January 1842 in Old Kilpatrick and married on the 10th of December 1859 in Newhills, Aberdeen, Scotland to Alexander Mutch.  Margaret died on the 9th of December 1927 in Clifton Hill, Victoria, Australia.  "Alexander b. 1838 Rayne, Aberdeen, Sct, son of William and Isabella (Smith from there) MUTCH from Cushietown (also there) who were married in Rayne 1835. Married 1859 to Margaret, daughter of Cuthbert (b. Stewarton, Ayrshire) and Jean (Laing) NAIRN who married in Dunbartonshire. They arrived Melbourne in the ship Annie Wilson 25 Nov 1864 with children: *Ann and Cuthbert; father-in-law Cuthbert NAIRN; Cuthbert's second wife Ann (Montgomery), brother-in-law Robert and his wife Agnes (Greig) NAIRN. Children born Victoria: Alexander (1866), Margaret (1868), Isabella Smith (1871). Died Collingwood 1871.  Daughter *Ann MUTCH b. 1860 Aucmill, New Hills, Aberdeen m. in Fitzroy Vic 1883 James, son of John and Lucy (Smeeth) GIBBS from Amesbury, Wiltshire, England.       • Margaret Lucy Gibbs was born in 1884 in Victoria and married in 1904 in Clifton Hill to Ernest Eden Tapscott.
      • Demetrius Gerasche Gibbs was born in 1886 in Victoria, Australia.

  • James Nairn was born in February in Dalmuir and christened on the 4th of March 1849 in Old Kilpatrick.  James died on the 22nd of July 1851 in Old Kilpatrick at age 2.
  • Isabella Nairn was born on the 25th of June in Dalmuir and christened on the 28th of July 1851 in Old Kilpatrick.  Isabella died on the 18th of March 1864 in Glasgow at age 12.  Isabella must have died just before the family embarked for Australia.
• Jean Nairn was christened on the 22nd of June 1806 in Kirkwood, Stewarton.
• Robert "Robin" Nairn was christened on the 29th of January 1809 in Kirkwood, Stewarton.

Bloakhillhead (sometimes called Blockhillhead) is a farm about 3 miles west of Stewarton town center. It was in the Nairn family in the 1700s and West Bloakhillhead still belonged to them in the 1891 census.
