     Herbert B. Capron was born on 16 December 1868 in Winchester, Cheshire, New Hampshire. He was the son of Silas Capron and Abby L. Brown.

     Victor J. Capron was born on 25 August 1868 in Ava, Oneida, New York. He was the son of Smith M. Capron and Sarah Jane Jillson. Victor J. Capron married Miss Fanny Kirk in 1900 in Port Townsend, Jefferson, Washington.¹ Victor J. Capron died on 16 November 1934 at age 66 in Seattle, King, Washington.²

Most San Juan Islanders have heard of the remarkable Dr. Victor Capron. Many however may not realize the breadth of his contributions. He was born in 1868 in New York. After receiving his medical degree, he came west to settle in Port Townsend. When the local economy collapsed in 1892, he moved to Hawaii where he worked with people with leprosy, developed an expertise in tropical disease, and started a coffee company. After being thrown from a horse in 1896, he moved to San Juan Island to recuperate.
In 1900, he married Fanny Kirk. Fanny’s parents, Peter and Florence Kirk, founded the city of Kirkland. At the time that Fanny and Victor married, the Kirk’s owned a home and 500 acres on what is now Yacht Haven Road. Doc Capron worked as the Roche Harbor Lime Company physician for 39 years and also had a practice in Friday Harbor.
These are the basic facts of Doc Capron’s life. What made him remarkable are the details. As Friday Harbor’s mayor three times and state legislator four times, he was responsible for many advances in his community. After researching the technology, he brought telephones to the island. He started the first electric light system in Friday Harbor, was responsible for organizing the water system, and consolidated the schools. During his tenure as legislator, he passed “Capron’s Fund” which allocated state monies to those counties without state roads. The fund brought the first “real road money”* to the county. That money built Warbass Way, which once was known as the “State Road”. We still receive this money today.
When the saw mill, the only source of electricity in town, burned down in 1911, Doctor Capron figured out a way to run his X-ray machine off the back wheel of his car. That proved to be very handy for a patient with a broken bone when a simple trip to the doctor’s was a bumpy, painful undertaking.
Doc Capron had proficiencies that extended beyond the normal skills of a country doctor. He was reported to have performed brain surgery at his office on Spring Street on a patient for whom all hope was lost. The patient survived. He delivered over 500 babies without a fatality. His five-hundredth baby was our very own Sam Buck Sr.

Capron was graduated in 1888 at Jefferson Medical College, Philadelphia, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.² He moved to at Honolulu, Honolulu, Hawaii, in on 10 March 1893; Aboard the SS Momowai from Port Townsend, WA.² He moved to at Port Townsend, Jefferson, Washington, in in 1896.

     Aaron J. Vail was born on 27 May 1847.¹ He married Carrie Daphna Capron, daughter of Chauncey Capron and Mary E. Brown, on 23 December 1879 in New Hampshire. Aaron J. Vail died on 17 January 1906 at age 58.¹

     May F. Aldrich was born on 8 October 1862.² She married Carroll F. Capron, son of George Oliver Capron and Roselle Bunce Francis, on 8 October 1885 in Westmoreland, Cheshire, New Hampshire.

     Lois Ann Taylor married Claudis Fremont Capron, son of James Austin Capron and Abigail Huling, on 31 December 1874 in Exeter, Washington, Rhode Island.

     Elsie Maria Foster was born on 16 November 1852 in Bridgewater, Windsor, Vermont. She married Collamer Capron, son of Stephen Capron and Mary Kellogg, on 4 January 1872 in Woodstock, Rutland, Vermont.¹ Elsie Maria Foster died on 13 February 1933 at age 80 in Bridgewater, Windsor, Vermont. She was buried in Bridgewater Cemetery, Bridgewater, Windsor, Vermont.

     Lou J. Trout was born on 11 January 1865 in Tennessee.¹ She married Edward Capron, son of Shepherd Capron and Mary S. Bliss, on 8 May 1881 in Barry County, Missouri.² Lou J. Trout died on 9 November 1950 at age 85 in Mendocino, Mendocino, California.¹
     Lou J. Capron appeared on the census of 1910 at Britton, Oklahoma, Oklahoma, as the wife of the head of the household, Edward Capron.³

     Charles William Capron was born on 13 April 1909 in Bellows Falls, Windham, Vermont. He was the son of Henry Curtis Capron and Grace Williams.

     Henry Curtis Capron was born on 30 January 1884 in Bellows Falls, Windham, Vermont. He was the son of Charles Edward Capron and Emma Aaddie Mabury. Henry Curtis Capron married Grace Williams. Henry Curtis Capron died on 23 October 1920 at age 36 in Bellows Falls, Windham, Vermont.

     Nancy Capron is the daughter of Charles William Capron and Dorthy Colton.

     Mary Capron is the daughter of Charles William Capron and Dorthy Colton.

     Patrica Capron is the daughter of Charles William Capron and Dorthy Colton.

     Nancy Capron was born in 1912. She was the daughter of Henry Curtis Capron. Nancy Capron died in 1983.

     George Milton Jacocks married Emily Hazard Capron, daughter of Charles Smith Capron and Susan P. Palmer, on 18 November 1869 in Providence, Providence, Rhode Island.¹

     Orpha Ann Barrett was born on 5 June 1826 in Amboy, Fulton, Ohio. She married Ephraim Capron, son of Abijah Capron and Polly Read, on 25 July 1844 in Ashtabula County, Ohio. Orpha Ann Barrett died on 2 March 1879 at age 52.

     Walter Polk Phillips was born on 13 June 1846 in Grafton, Worcester, Massachusetts. He married Francena Adelaide Capron, daughter of Virgil Henry Capron and Nancy Dunham, on 13 April 1866 in Providence, Providence, Rhode Island.¹

     Russel Corey married Hannah W. Capron, daughter of Leonard Capron and Elizabeth Wells, on 16 April 1835 in East Greenwich, Kent, Rhode Island.

     William Reynolds Slocum was born on 10 August 1811 in Warwick, Kent, Rhode Island. He married Harriet Knight Capron, daughter of Caleb Bailey Capron and Betsey Essex, on 8 August 1833 in North Kingstown, Washington, Rhode Island.

     Susan Spencer married Isaac Alfred Capron, son of Leonard Capron and Elizabeth Wells, on 9 February 1844 in Coventry, Kent, Rhode Island.

Mary Elinor Gardiner died in Pawtucket, Providence, Rhode Island.

     Fredrick Daniel Capron was born on 24 June 1876 in East Greenwich, Kent, Rhode Island.¹ He was the son of Florence Capron and Mary Elinor Gardiner. Fredrick Daniel Capron married Maude L. Cleveland on 12 November 1900 in Pawtucket, Providence, Rhode Island. Fredrick Daniel Capron and an unknown person were divorced before 1930.² He died in December 1964 at age 88 in Pawtucket, Providence, Rhode Island.¹

     Halsey Capron is the son of Florence Capron and Mary Elinor Gardiner.

     Maude L. Cleveland was born on 13 February 1881 in Pawtucket, Providence, Rhode Island. She married Fredrick Daniel Capron, son of Florence Capron and Mary Elinor Gardiner, on 12 November 1900 in Pawtucket, Providence, Rhode Island. Maude L. Cleveland died in Dorchester, Suffolk, Massachusetts.

     Stuart Cleveland Capron was born on 21 December 1902 in Boston, Suffolk, Massachusetts. He was the son of Fredrick Daniel Capron and Maude L. Cleveland. Stuart Cleveland Capron married Linnea Nelson on 7 September 1929 in Dorchester, Suffolk, Massachusetts. Stuart Cleveland Capron died in October 1979 at age 76 in Braintree, Norfolk, Massachusetts.¹
