He obituary reads " OBITUARY OF HORACE GIBSON ALDRICH taken from the Pawtucket Gazette and Chronicle Friday 9 September 1887
The brief announcement of the serious sickness of Mr.Horace G. Aldrich, the well-known expressman, was made in our issue last Friday. Shortly before midnight of that day, he breathed his last at his home on South Union street. He had been a familiar figure in the business centre of our community for upward of twenty years, and though filling a humble but important station, the duties of which he performed with admirable exectutive skill, he will be greatly missed by our merchants and business men. Mr.Aldrich was born near Sugar Hill, N.H, in 1827 and came to Pawtucket when he was twenty-one years old.He arrived here on the day when the Home Bleachery blew up,and he was one of the number who assisted in removing the killed on that memorable occasion. He found employment as an engineer in the Dexter mill that stood where the post office (Dexter building) now is. Subsequently he went to California in the days of '49, and returning he went to work inthe machine shop of Capt. James S.Brown, where he labored for a number of years, until, between fifteen and twenty years ago, he purchased Branch's Express business, which expanded from one horse and wagon until today it comprises six local and four Providence teams. For thepast five or six years Mr.Aldrich has devoted his entire time to the superintending of the large business, with headquarters at Lyons Delany& Co.'s tea store. He was prompt and efficent in all his transactions, and had the un bounded confidence of all his patrons. His death resulte dfrom inflammation of the bowels, with which he was attacked but alittle over a week previously. He married, during his earlier residence here, Miss Desire Westgate, who died in the 12th of October,1886. The deceased was a prominent member of the Masonic bodies of this city, and he was also an Odd Fellow. The funeral took place on Tuesdayafternoon last and was attended by a large concourse of relatives and friends and Holy Sepulchre Commandery, Royal Arch Chapter and Union Lodge of Masons. A brief service was held at the house, and afterward services were conducted at St. Paul's Church, of which the deceased was a communicant. Rev.E.H.Porter, rector, officiated, and the Masonic service was performed both in the church and at the grave in Oak HillCemetery. The floral tributes from relatives, friends, and societies were numerous and appropriate." He was buried in Oak Grove Cemetery, Pawtucket, Providence, Rhode Island.
