Herbert E.Bowles Dies Suddenly. Proprietor of Aldrich Express Company victim of Cerebral Hemorrhage

Herbert E.Bowles, proprietor of the Horace G.Aldrich Express Company and one of Pawtucket's best known residents, died suddenly this morning at his home, 22 Whipple street. Mr Bowles was in the best of health yesterday. Shortly after 9:30 o'clock last night, he retired and about an hour later complained of not feeling well. A physician was called and a thorough examination showed that Mr. Bowles was suffering from a hemorrhage of the brain. He died at 7:15 o'clock this morning. Herbert Elmore Bowles was born in Franconia,N.H., Aug. 9, 1857, and settled in Pawtucket about 56 years ago. About 50 years ago his uncle, Horace G.Aldrich, started in the express business, and when he died, 10 years later, Mr. Bowles and George Fairbrother continued the business. Mr Fairbrother died 10 years ago and at that time Mr. Bowles became sole owner of the Aldrich Express Company. He was well known throughout Pawtucket and the Blackstone Valley and his friends have learned of his sudden death with sorrow. He was a member of the Red Men, also the Pawtucket-Central Falls Chamber of Commerce and the Pawtucket Business Men's Association. Mr. Bowles is survived by his mother, Mrs. Betsey Bowles, who is 89 years of age and a resident of West Barrington, also his wife, Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Bowles, a son, Frank Elmore Bowles, a grandson Frank Elmore Bowles,Jr., and a sister, Mary Ida Jollie.

The death of Mrs. Mary I. Jollie occurred Saturday morning at her home, 97 Narragansett Avenue, West Barrington, following a short illness. Mrs. Jollie was born in Franconia, N.H., the daughter of the late Silas and Betsy (Aldrich) Bowles. She was in her 73rd year, and had resided in West Barrington for 21 years, formerly living in Pawtucket and Central Falls. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Pawtucket. Surviving her are a son, Louis G. Jollie of Providence; one daughrter, Mrs. L. Ray Lewis of Lisbon, N.H., and two grandchildren. Funeral services will be held tomorrow at her late home at 2 p.m.,with Rev. Charles E. McColley, pastor of the Plainfield Street Baptist Church,Providence officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, Pawtucket."      Herbert Critchley Cheek was born on 13 October 1910. He married Ada Alzina Aldrich, daughter of Henry Earle Aldrich and Cora Jennie Woolson, on 19 April 1941. Herbert Critchley Cheek died on 27 December 1989 at age 79. He was buried in Oak Grove Cemetery, Pawtucket, Providence, Rhode Island.

     Barbara E. Clark was born on 14 June 1915. She was the daughter of Charles Clark and Mary Alzina Aldrich. Barbara E. Clark died on 25 December 1995 at age 80 in Florida.
