     Biographical Notes for Dr. Renald (Reginald) Fernald: Dr. Renald/Reginald Fernald went to Portsmouth, NH about 1631, as the Surgeon of Capt John Mason's Company. It is tradition that he was a surgeon in the English Navy, resigning his post to come to America. During his life he served as Clerk of Court, Recorder of Deeds, Commissioner and Surveyor and was Town Clerk at the time of his death. He lived on 'Doctor's Island' (now Pierce's Island) where he died between May and Oct of 1656. He was buried at Point of Graves Cemetery in Portsmouth. Most of the Fernald descendants remained in the area, residing in Kittery, Maine most all their life. Some moved to nearby New England towns.
