     Biographical Notes for Jacob Eugene Capron: According to family tradition Jacob got into a fight with a neighbor and struck him with a milking stool. Believing he had killed the man he fled and joined the Union army changing his name to Charles L. Curtice in the process. Curtice was the surname of his sister's husband. After the war he returned home to find out the man he had fought with survived. By that time he was used to his new name and changed it legally.
Story provided by Brian Curtice via email 15 April 2009 circa 1861. His name was legally changed to Charles L. Curtice.1
