Alpha Capron was born on 19 April 1795. She was the daughter of Laban Capron and Hannah Sweet. Alpha Capron married Hezekiah Gorton on 4 June 1816 in Broadalbin, Fulton, New York.1,2 Alpha Capron died on 19 September 1868 at age 73 in Marion, Marion, Ohio.3,1 She obituary reads " Died in Marion on the 19th, Mrs. Alfe Gorton, age 73 years and 5 months. She was born in PA, married in N.Y., and soon moved to Ohio, living in Franklinton, opposite Columbus a few years, and then she came to Marion County locating first a Big Island, and soon after at Marion upon the organization of the county. She had been a resident of Marion 48 years. During her years of health she was "given to hospitality" and eminently social. For many years she was a great sufferer from nervous prostration. Nearly a half century ago she united with the Christian church. Her last sickness was attended with great suffering, borne without a murmur. Her end was peace, and her future we believe, a blessed immortality."2 She was buried on after 19 September 1868 in Marion Cemetery, Marion, Marion, Ohio; Marker info: Wife of Col Hez.
