CAST/CREW CALLS

Auditions are by appointment only.  E-mail or call 574-329-5827 to get the monologues and schedule an appointment.  We also accept video auditions (mini-dv, VHS or DVD only).

We’re currently looking for cast and crew for the following 2 productions:

TORN

Short film to be shot in mid-May – 1-weekend long shoot.  Other roles have been cast.  Still looking for:

Lisa – 20s/30s – filled with emotional turmoil, but hides it.  Part requires nudity, but no full frontal.  Must convey much of character through face.

TRIPPIN’

This will be the first feature-length film for Deviant Pictures.  Principal Shooting will take place the first 2 weeks of August.  Additional shoots and rehearsals will be necessary. The role of Eagle-Eye will also require a 1-day shoot next winter (we need snow for the scene)

Principal Characters:

Background: Joe, Jeremy, Zed and Mickey have been friends since high school. Joe and Mickey are now married. Zed and Holly have been going out for years. Jeremy, a serial monogamist, met his latest, Giselle, at the college where he works as an administrator. This trip is the first time the others meet her.

Specific requirements:

All roles are speaking roles.  All principal cast members must be 21 or older.

We are not looking for actors with any specific ethnic backgrounds.  Joe, Jeremy, Zed and Mickey need to all look the same age – so ideally these actors will look to be in their late 20’s.  Giselle should appear slightly younger.

The roles of Giselle and Holly must be played by women who are physically fit and willing to wear somewhat scanty clothing in some scenes.  The role of Mickey can be played by an actress with a fuller body type, but does involve one scene where she wears only an unclasped bra and panties.  She has one scene that involves a sexual situation.

The role of Holly requires some nudity (no full frontal) and involves sexual situations (that are not gratuitous – they stem from their characters and the situations – this is not an exploitation film.  The writer/director is female and is not a fan of weak female characters that are just there as sex objects or window dressing.)

The role of Giselle must be played by somebody with some dance training (ideally modern and/or ballet and even better if she has choreography experience).  It will also be helpful if she can do the splits (either kind - or fake it well) during a dance number.)

The role of Jeremy must be played by a physically fit actor who can qualify as a “pretty boy” – that is not to say effeminate –  but clearly stands out as a guy who girls might fall for based on his looks alone.  His role involves some nudity (no full frontal) and sexual situations.

The role of Zed will ideally played by an actor who can sing and play guitar (not absolutely necessary, but it would help.  Playing bongo drums would also be helpful, though not essential, longish hair would be great, but again, not essential)

Following are some personality traits and a little back story for each principal character….

Mickey: female, mid-20's-early 30's –

Outspoken, sarcastic, somewhat tom-boy-ish, highly intuitive. Part Daria, part Janeane Garofalo, part Donna from That 70’s Show. She takes photographs of roadkill as her hobby. She listens to Nerf Herder and Black Sabbath though her all-time favorite song (though she’d never admit it) is Tracey Chapman’s “Fast Car.” She enjoys beer, pot and the Weekly World News. She’s fiercely loyal and will stand by Joe no matter what, though she gets frustrated with his poor judgment and irresponsible behavior. She wants to have a good life and is always trying to make things better and get it together. She has a dead-end, but stable job that she doesn’t mind so much.  She keeps herself amused with company gossip and practical jokes and she lives for the weekends and sleeping in. She loves mindless television and infomercials. She becomes defensive when crossed and is a bit paranoid at times, assuming people are talking about her behind her back.  She is not very trusting. She’s maternal towards her friends. She wants to be a "good person," but isn't 100% sure what that even means.

Joe: male, mid-20's, early 30's –

Sarcastic, outspoken, gruff and impatient, but his candidness, confidence (bordering on arrogance) and quick wit make him both fun and endearing. He can even be occasionally sweet under that tough exterior (imagine Archie Bunker meets Hyde of That 70's Show.) He’s smart, but an underachieving slacker which is only amplified by drugs and alcohol. He’s very honorable in his own way.  He will do anything for a friend, most of all Mickey, but has little patience for the rest of the world. He hates whiners.  He likes breasts.

Zed: male, mid-20's, early 30's –

The easy-going guy that everybody likes - a beer drinking, guitar-playing good time stoner boy who idolizes Spicoli, Bill and Ted and Jim Morrison. He’s accident-prone and frequently the butt of practical jokes, but always good-natured (and sometimes completely oblivious) about it. He loves to laugh and others to laugh with or even at him. Despite his love of alcohol, drugs and porn - there's an almost childlike innocence about him. He'd go to the ends of the earth for a friend.

Holly: female, mid-20's, early 30's –

The free-spirited party girl. She’s flirtatious and sexy, but not mere window-dressing for some guy's arm. She's feisty, independent and spirited. She’s not particularly book smart, but very savvy and together. She’s athletic and enjoys being "one of the guys," but still very feminine. She’s good to her friends, but looks out for number 1 first. She has many selfish tendencies and a flair for trouble. She likes what she thinks she cannot have and has no qualms about going after it (or him). She loves to be the center of attention and is all about having a good time – sometimes to the detriment of her mates.

Giselle: female, early-mid-20's –

A classic "only child," Giselle's a talented dancer and straight-A college student, she's at home in safe, intellectual environments, is involved with student government and community service activities, and thinks the perfect night out is dinner at a yuppie "ethnic" restaurant, then attending a play or foreign film and discussing it afterward over sweet coffee drinks at a trendy "bohemian" café with other art students. She’s young and naive for her age, and not very experienced with men, having only had 2 serious boyfriends and no casual sex (unless you count her secret rendez-vous with the shower massager which she would never admit to) . She rarely drinks (pretends to like wine with dinner, but never really developed a taste for it), is anti-drug and puts a high importance on manners and appearances. Deep inside there's a wilder part of her that would love to break out. Due to her heart condition (she has angina) her parents were highly over-protective and studying dance against her doctor's advice has been her one major rebellion in life. It's her one true passion. She would never admit to her active and vivid sexual fantasy life which she's far too shy to ever explore. She hates sports, the outdoors and large crowds. She's quick to judge other people and her sheltered life has made her a bit of a social misfit among anyone different from herself.

Jeremy: male, mid-20's, early 30's –

The charming boy next door with preppie good looks, Jeremy's been friends with Mickey, Joe and Zed since high school. Jeremy is the "responsible" one with the college degree and "real" job. He took all the honors courses, played sports and got on well with the preppie kids, but always preferred the company of his loyal "stoner" buddies with whom he didn't feel pressured to be perfect. He was Richie Cunningham to Joe's Fonzie, although not nearly so geeky. Girls asked him to the prom. A serial monogamist, Jeremy is never without a girlfriend (frequently a younger one), but also never ceases to be a flirt whenever the occasion arises - which it does often. He drinks and smokes pot in moderation and tries to be the voice or reason when the situation calls for it. Easy-going and friendly, he fits in with any crowd. He always goes out with the kind of girl his parents would approve of, but really wants somebody more like Holly...or Holly herself if it wouldn't mean screwing over a friend…and maybe even if it does.

Supporting roles:

The following roles will take only a few days of shooting.

Eagle-Eye Johnson:  50’s or older, a lanky, gaunt, weather-worn former hunter/poacher who did some time after accidentally shooting his wife during a hunting accident.  Will also be needed for a day-long shoot next winter (when it snows)

Red:  40’s or older, A cheerful, albeit somewhat physically creepy (in a Deliverance meets Texas Chainsaw Massacre sort of way) truck driver whose frequent smile looks more menacing than friendly.

Lee:  female, 8-12, A tom-boy who runs with neighborhood kids through the woods.  She’s a bit wild and not afraid to get rough if she thinks she’s being threatened. This is not a movie for an 8-12 year-old to watch, so parents will need to take that into consideration.  The scenes that involve children will not contain any material that is beyond a PG-rating.  Lee does, however, need to threaten other characters with a fire poker and yell menacingly at one point (all monitored carefully and choreographed to be safe).  In another scene she and some other kids will be spying on an amorous couple.  The actors will not “see” anything”, but the dialogue indicates what’s going on in non-explicit terms.

Neighborhood Kids: a gang of 7-13 year olds who run wild in the woods.  See description of Lee for parental note.

Leroy:  male, 50’s or older, a jovial junkyard man

Andy:  male, 30’s – a clean-cut driver in a nice car with a mysterious background
