A May 17, 1907 Holly Grove News Martha ARTICE (or Artica?), a colored woman who has been sick in bed for four months died last Thursday. Martha had cooked for Mrs. T.G. Trice for a number of years while she was in the hotel business and was a good, kind-hearted woman. The poor woman suffered a great deal before she died. Peace be unto her ashes.

C November 16, 1906 Holly Grove News Aunt Mary COOK, a highly respected old colored woman who lived at the home of her son, Wm. Cook at Holly Grove and her daughter Lucinda WEEKLIF, who lived in Duncan both died in an hour of each other on Monday evening the 12th of November, 1906. They were buried the next day at the New Hope Cemetery near Holly Grove.Between Nov. 31, 1898 & Feb 9, 1906 (see explanation on "Other Genealogy info" page) Holly Grove News An old colored man, uncle Sam COTTON,who was buried last Thursday was more than 100 years old. From what we can learn of the old man, he was about 105 years old.
June 28, 1907 Holly Grove News Old Aunt Dinah CRUMP, a good old colored woman, was buried last Saturday at the Mt. Zion burial ground. This writer has known Aunt Dinah fifty years. She was the oldest colored woman in Monroe County at the time of her death.
D March 23, 1906 Holly Grove News An old colored man, Uncle Long DAVIS, recently fell from a box and fractured his skull from which he died in a short while. His house had caught fire and he got upon a box in order to get on the house to put out the fire, when the box turned, causing his fall.December 7, 1906 "Colored Citizen Dies" Last week, "Aunt Mollie" DAVIS, wife of Robert Davis one of our finest colored citizens passed away at their home. This old couple came to this section in 18?8 and has [sic] been good citizens, respected by everyone. "Aunt Mollie" was born in Alabama where she was a favorite servant for the ? family, then living in Pike county, ?. She was married to Robert Davis and the old fellow is sore ? at her sudden death which occured last week. She was the ? 13 children. A good kind ? whom everyone loved and ?. (This article was very difficult to read, so there are several words I couldn't make out. I put a question mark in place of the unknown words.)

F March 29, 1907 Holly Grove News John FINNEY, a colored laborer at the Walls and Patterson Saw Mill near Rag Town was seriously hurt last Saturday by a log falling on him from the log wagon. He afterword died from the injury.September 28, 1906 "Will Foster Killed" Will FOSTER, a well known colored character in town, was shot and killed last Thursday morning by Arch Gilbert, porter at W.A. Maple's barber shop. The shooting occured in Bud Murdock's house in Newport. The difficulty was caused by Foster refusing to pay Gilbert a dollar he had owed him [for] some time... G December 21, 1906 Local Henry GILL, the old colored cistern digger died suddenly at his home last Saturday evening. He was up town about two hours before his death and seemed as jovial as usual. He has no doubt dug more cisterns in Brinkley than others diggers.
H July 19, 1907 Local/Brinkley Nels HARDIN, one of our good colored citizens, who has been afflicted for several months past, died recently. Nels was well-liked and was a hard- working, good citizen.March 1, 1907 Holly Grove News Lettie HOUSTON, one of Jacob Collins' daughters died at her home near Holly Grove last Monday night. Her death was not a surprise to her colored friends as she had been sick for more than a year.

M April 20, 1906 Clarendon News J.M. MILES, familiarly called Uncle Jim, of near Palmer Station, died Sunday. He was one of Monroe county's best citizens, and a kind, affectionate father and husband and a good neighbor. (a second obit in another section of this issue) James M. MILES of near Ragtown, died at his home at 12 o'clock last Sunday afternoon after a long spell of fever. Mr. Miles was 64 years old and has been in Arkansas all his life. He leaves a wife and several children to mourn his death. He leaves his family in good circumstances - a fine farm unincumbered. We offer sympathy and condolence for the bereaved ones.March 29, 1907 Holly Grove News Hunt MOORE, a very worthy colored man died of pneumonia at his home near Holly Grove last Sunday. We are sorry to loose[sic] such colored folks as Hunt Moore. He was a good, honest citizen, one who paid his debts promptly and tried in every way to do his duty as a moral citizen.
October 5, 1906 Holly Grove News There were several deaths among the colored people last week, among them was W.J. MOSBY, who was a well to do and educated colored man.
March 23, 1906 Holly Grove News Aunt Pleas MULLINS (col.) died last Thursday and was buried last Friday.

O October 12, 1906 Local Callie ODOM, wife of Rev. S.S. Odom, pastor of the 1st Baptist church (col.) died Tuesday night. The funeral was held in the church from 10 - 12 a.m. Wednesday and was attended by more people than could get in the church. Rev. Odom is one of the most prominent preachers and leaders among his race in this city and his wife naturally shared the honors with him. She will be greatly missed by the workers and members of her church. In her death, her husband has sustained a greivous loss.
P February 9, 1906 Holly Grove News Aunt Maria PHILLIPS, a very good and highly respected old colored woman of Holly Grove, died very suddenly last Wednesday night. She had been out at work during the day and went home at 10 o'clock that night, while sitting in a chair before the fire, she began to cough and in a few minutes, she dropped dead. Heart trouble was the supposed cause.
