The case of Laura SMITH, of Marietta, indicted for perjury, has been continued until the next term of cout.

Wm. WARD, of Aurelius township, was in jail at Marietta the close of the week, pending a formal inquest of lunancy, he being a violent lunatic.

Harry HOLDEN plead guilty in cout at Marietta, on Friday, to the burglary of Brenan's grocery there, and was sentenced to the penitentiary for one year.

Since COONT'S incarceration in the Penitentiary, says the Marietta Times, he has been made the father of a bouncing girl, which event happened on the 19th of January.

George HORNSBY, of Latrobe, Athens county, who had been confined in the county jail, at Marietta, since the 20th of December for bastardy, was released last week by an order of cout, the young lady who accused him, Miss Julianna WATERMAN, failing to appear against him.

The case of John McGILL, who had been in jail for the past six months, charged with the buring of Judge Ewart's barn, of Marietta, resulted in his discharged last week, COONTS, the Penitentiary convict, who was produced in court to testify against him, subbornly refusing to do so.

Three young men from Newport, this county, were lodged in jail at Marietta recently on the charge of riot. They attempted to release a prisoner, on trial before a Justice of the Peace on some minor offence, and during the excitement the prisoner made good his escape.

Joseph WOOD was tried in Marietta at the late term of court for burglary and found guilty.

Charles WOODS, arrested recently on a telegram from Lancaster, Ohio, was dischared subsequently, the Lancaster officials failing to identify him.

The Marietta dispatch of Saturday last says: William WARD, the Aurelius township lunatic, confined in the County Jail awaiting the action of the Probate Judge, assulted a fellow prisoner named Alex. SHINN this morning, and succeeded in beating him terribly over the head with a chair before he was secured. With some difficutly he was overcome and locked in a cell. He had been allowed the freedom of the main room on account of the couldness of the cell. SHINN is pretty badly used up, but his injuries are not serious.
