Sandy's Journey
The Final Cut

It's almost a year since I started locking. One thing I've learned about myself over the past year is that my patience can only go so far.  Remember back in the beginning when I promised Sheila that I wouldn't cut the perm off?  Well... just 10 days before the one-year mark I whacked off the rest of the relaxer in the back. The ends that used to be curly had begun to hang straight, and you just know that I was not havin' no straight hair on my nappy head! So I carefully cut off all of the relaxed ends. And I love it!! I'm finally 100% nappy!

WEEK FIFTY-ONE

I had just washed my hair and sat down to join an online chat the evening of July 12th, and I suddenly decided to whack off the remaining relaxer... lock by lock. You can see from this picture that I still had a good 2 inches of relaxer back there. I don't know what came over me, but I'm glad I did it. Now I truly have no more hair issues!

Note: I do not advise anyone to cut their own hair. It's really easy to cut into the lock and mess up.  Let the professionals do the cutting.

Here's how it looked when I finished whacking on it. I like it. Nothing but locks. No chemicals! Now I no longer have to deal with that dead, tortured hair anymore! I am FREE!
I gotta tell you how this picture was taken. I wanted a blank wall for a background, and the bathroom is the only room in the house that has blank walls. So.. I set the timer on my camera, sat the camera on top of the toilet tank, and sat my butt down on the cold tiled floor right in front of the toilet! It's a good thing my kids didn't walk in on me. They already think I've lost my mind. This would have proven it for sure!

At work the next day. No rollers... just freestylin'. Yeah... I am lovin' my hair!

A view from the top.
After a couple of days I decided to see what it would look like if I curled it. This picture and the two below show my all-natural locks after a wet set with just water and sponge rollers. Not bad!
