The objective of this course is to give students an understanding of the tools and concepts used in Photography. Both film and digital capture, and image manipulation and enhancement will be covered. Considerations concerning image preparation for print, web and multimedia will also be addressed. The primary software used in this class will be Adobe Photoshop.

Discussion of the assignments and review of these projects will engage the class members in the consideration of compositional elements such as: arrangement, cropping, direction, esthetics, framing, harmony, isolation, movement, pattern, rhythm, scale, symmetry, and unity.

In addition, we will discuss examples of work by graphic and web designers and artists that demonstrate ideas such as perceptual and cognitive dissonance, surrealism, use of graphic and web design elements to more effectively express the desired idea. We'll touch on eye movement, focal points, focus, texture, color, perspective and identification.
