a foreign war against pirates if they are listed as an ‘enemy’ in
the province list (but not if an invader).
55 Roman popular support in the province. The Roman governor can mobilize the
militia, providing 1d4 mercenary 4Ax, or (if the province could provide them
as allies) 4Bd or 4Sp or 4Pk at the governor’s discretion.
56,57 Friend and Ally of the Roman People: If a Friend and Ally proposal is
pending for this province, it is approved; if no Friend and Ally proposal exists,
any nation in the province applies for this status.
58 Unexpected Ally: A random neutral nation or tribe provides an ally general
and 2d6 elements in support of a campaign in this province.
59, 60 Minor Campaign: This event must be played on a province with a foreign
war. If no foreign wars anywhere, then the province affected has a war started
by the Senate. The Senate has approved additional resources in this province.
There are two battles fought in any one foreign war for this province. Casualties
are taken into account between battles.
61 Your Quaestor displays military talent: The Quaestor of your province is
also a reasonably capable general. Convert a 3Cv or 4Bd element in your existing
army into a new general at no cost. However, the new general receives 1/3 of
the plunder for any battle he participates in.
62, 63 Student of Demetrios Helepolis: This permanently applies to the affected
player. After reading the biography of Demitrios Helepolis, the player takes
an unusual interest in artillery. The player may convert one element of his
army to Art for free, and receives a 25 percent discount when hiring other
artillery. He can capture a city by siege immediately after winning any battle
without specifying a BUA on table, as long as the current Roman victory score
is positive.
64 Unrest: Bitter at tax farming, double standards and other injustices, the
citizens of the province provide little or no support for the Roman governor.
Ally troops and local auxiliaries cost 50 percent more. Province revenues reduced
by 50 percent. Cancelled by General Contentment and if repeated in the same
province, becomes a revolt. +1 to revolt die roll.
65 Diplomatic Success: the governor of the affected province can modify any
Foreign War roll or peace die roll in this province by + or -2 for free, and
if the resulting number for the aggression die roll is 6 or higher, a random
neutral state applies for Friend and Ally status
66 The Senate takes a hand: The Senate sends an extra legion and general to
the affected province (1x3Cv general, 4 x 4Bd or 3 x 4Bd + 1 x 4Sp).
67 Allies or auxiliaries desert: In the affected province, 1d6 non-Roman, non-mercenary
elements are removed from the general’s army.
68 Allies defect: In the affected province, any allied army (ally general plus
associated elements) will fight on the side of the enemies of Rome. If there
are no allied armies in existence, then a randomly determined potential enemy
provides an enemy ally contingent in any battles fought this round. This nation
becomes an enemy of Rome in either case and prosecutes a war against Rome.
69 Spirited Oratory before the battle: An inspired speech
fires the Morale of the Roman army. Add one to the break point of a basic DBA
army, add 1 to the
break point of all commands containing at least 50 percent Roman elements,
and the entire DBA Big Battle Army defeat point is increased to 60 percent
for one player this bound.
70 Rumors and Intrigue in Rome: the Roman grapevine and enemies have contrived
to reduce the prestige of the designated player by 10.
71 Drillmaster: The Roman army in this province may hire and convert 1D4 elements
of 4Sp, 4Pk, 3Ax or 4Ax into imitation legionnaires 4Bd at no cost. One of
these elements may follow the general. The others remain in the province, permanently.
72 Mutiny: The Roman elements in the affected province are reduced by 10 percent
as a result of decimation after a failed mutiny. The governor loses 5 prestige
for each element removed.
73 Illyrian Migration: The Illyrians invade a Roman province 1,2,3 they invade
Cisalpine Gaul 4,5,6 they invade Macedon. In this invasion they have a temporary
aggression of ‘4’ and if they roll an aggression die roll of ‘6’ they
receive extra troops as specified for .
74, 75 Investigation of Corruption: The Roman player designated to receive
this event is prosecuted as provided for under the ‘Extortion and Prosecution’ rules
