What it is: Bread Plate - 5 7/8" with the letters 'S C' and five stars as the top mark.

What we know: This Top Mark has been identified. It is from the Southern Cross Hotel. We know there were at least two hotels, one located in Melbourne and the other in Sydney, Australia. The Melbourne Hotel has since been torn down and is the only hotel to host all 5 Beatles when they were on tour in 1964. The Sydney hotel still remains open today.

This plate is from Mayer China, with a 1962 (162) datecode. We also have coupe plates and saucers with a blue/lightblue top mark and a different pattern than shown here. Check our eBay auctions for a chance to bid on one of these neat pieces of memorabilia.

Many thanks to Tony Earl from Australia for taking the time to email us with the information we needed to identify this top mark.
