Notes: comeandgetit is available to purchasers of Liz Phair with an internet connection. Pop the original disc into your machine, wade through a few web-based "licensing" screens where you'll be accosted for an email address, and you'll ultimately see this page, where the 5-song EP can be downloaded.

Warning: the resulting file is copy protected, requires Windows Media Player (WiMP) for playback, and cannot be simply converted into MP3s or audio files suitable for play in your digital music player or home, car, or portable CD player. The site also provides JPGs and PDFs of nice jewel-case inserts (as seen to the left) but they're pretty useless because many people won't be able to burn a usable disc.

Remember folks, this is what the music industry thinks the future should look like: music on their terms or else (they'll sue you). Maybe a consumer boycott is needed to get their attention....

Tips for Mac users: You can get these files without too much headache if you do 3 things before attempting the download:

  • Get the current/final version of M$ Internet Exploder (err, Explorer) and temporarily designate it as your default browser (via System Preferences in OS X). I mean, you ARE using Safari or Camino for everyday surfing, right?
  • While you're picking up Exploder for the Mac, get and install the latest Windows Media Player for Mac
  • Make sure that Exploder is NOT set to automatically reject all cookies

Lastly, don't forget to restore your default browser after the download: use Safari or Camino (or Opera or Mozilla) instead of IE. Support a standards-friendly web environment and we'll all be better off.
