For the Mekons, et al
Stable Will
Notes: Both tunes on this single were recorded at the Lounge Ax in Chicago on November 17, 1994. A studio version of "For the Mekons, et al" initially appeared on the Hey Drag City label compilation and was later collected on Will Oldman's Guarapero: lost blues 2 CD. You can hear a clip of the studio version of "For the Mekons, et al" (Real Audio format) at this very nice Palace page en francais (click on "Sons" in the navigation bar at top and then scroll down). The complete lyrics, which include this couplet "If you won they'd be the new Mekons / And you perhaps a myth bygone", are available at the sprawling Palace/Oldham fan site The Pulpit.

This song was but one of Will Oldham's gestures to the Mekons, et al: he also wrote "No More Rides" for Sally's solo To The Land Of Milk And Honey. In turn, Sally and Jon wrote "Horses" for the Palace Songs "Horses" single, which later appeared on the Palace Brothers An Arrow Through The Bitch 12"/CD on Domino.
