This Sporting Life
Frustration
Neddy B Riot (live)
|
|
|
Notes: Recorded at Spaceward Studios, Cambridge, April 1981, engineered by Mike
Kemp. Produced by Mike Kemp and the Mekons. Live track recorded in Wuppertal, W. Germany, September 1980. The lead track is
a 6:12 version of the cut on The Mekons Story; "Frustration" is "followed
by a mystery live track" (entitled "Neddy B. Riot" on the record label)
that is in fact a ragged version of "Never Been In A Riot". The disc was supposedly
limited to 1000 copies. Question: does anyone have a copy with a printed inner sleeve? Please send me
a note (discographer@comcast.net) if yours does. Thanks.
The inner grooves read: "Turtle The
Last Mekons Fan" and "Thank Christ". The outer sleeve carries the legend
"This is the last Mekons record" written backwards over part of the cover
art. It also says "Hijos dos pueblos a las barracudas DISCOS/CNT *Hit*
Dusseldorf/Leeds 5.81" (rough translation: Sons of the people to the barricades with disco records).
The German issue has a completely different
sleeve and lists more production info. "This Sporting Life" was also issued by CNT as a
7" single.
Lineup: Jon Langford, Tom Greenhalgh, Pete Barker, Kevin Lycett, Mark White
