Dear Parent,
I am really pleased that your child has expressed interest in the instrumental music program. The beginning of the year is a very exciting time for students and teachers, and a great time to start an instrument!
There are two goals that the music program will accomplish for your child:
(1) empower students to think critically using skills, concepts, and knowledge by singing, playing, improvising, composing and creating music
(2) encourage the life-long pursuit of music learning experiences.
Students are able to explore music further in a small group setting. Learning instrumental music requires students to strategize, synthesize knowledge learned in other disciplines, and create their own works based on principles learned from the skills and knowledge they have acquired. Instrumental music uses all three modes of learning; visual, aural, and kinesthetic. In addition, every student can be proud of the end result of playing an instrument – great music with friends!
Attending one of the parent meetings is strongly encouraged, but not required. There is limited space for each instrument, so please wait to make any purchases until receiving a confirmation letter from me. The sooner the appropriate forms are returned, the greater chance your child has of receiving the instrument of his/her 1st choice.
