Instrumental Music Program Statistics

Recruitment/Retainment Data

Enrollment data in the instrumental music program.

Sight-Reading Inventory (SRI) Data

Assesses the tonal and rhythmic sight-reading skills of each student. Each example gets increasingly more complex and adds new skills and concepts. Students receive 2 points for each measure played correctly and play until they receive a score of zero on a line. These are conducted five times during a students playing career, twice in the first year and three times in the second year.

Instrumental Music Audio Portfolio (IMAP) Data

The IMAP is conducted at the end of each supplemental unit. Students are assessed on tonal proficiency, rhythmic proficiency, tone quality, steady beat, articulation, phrasing, and dynamis for the skills and concepts presented in that particular unit. Each student earns either a Beginning (little or no knowledge/use of the skill/concept), Developing (developing knowledge/use of the skill concept), Secure (proficient knowledge/use of the skill/concept), or Advanced (advanced knowledge/use of the skill/concept). The assessment piece is recorded and saved with the corresponding instrumental accompaniment. Parents wishing copies of their child's performances may obtain them at the end of the school year by sending blank CD.
