What happened this week ... We celebrated our One Year Wedding Anniversary!!! This year has flown by! A lot has happened in this past year, changes to our families, several additions and a temporary loss. Yet, at the same time it is almost hard to believe that it has been a year. Danae & I still feel like we are newlyweds. We feel so blessed to be sealed in the temple and to have the beautiful Washington DC temple so close, facilitating frequent visits. Just prior to our anniversary, we were in Utah (as witnessed by the previous entries on our website). While in Utah, we started reminiscing about our wedding. We had the opportunity to attend the wedding of a good friend of Danae's in the same temple in which we were sealed — the Mount Timpanogos Temple. We also were priveledged to visit family. We also ate (and shared) the top tier of our wedding cake which, even though it was much better a year ago, it was still tasty. Not to sound too corny, but unlike the cake, our marriage has only gained in flavor. We learn everday how to improve our love, ourselves, and each other. I am personally grateful for a wonderful wife who is such a great example, is so patient (with her sometimes obstinate husband – a Fails' family trait), and teaches me so much! We would also like to thank all who joined in our celebrations this year and last year, either in direct participation or kind messages of congratulations. We love you all. On to the historical part ... Our anniversary started with breakfast in bed, including Danae's favorite — German pancakes. Unfortunately Danae was begining to not feel very well that day (and no it wasn't my cooking — at least I don't think it was). Since Danae had some scheduled activities mid-day and since she wasn't feeling too well, we simply celebrated by going out to eat. We took the metro to Union Station in DC and dined at the Thunder Grill. The following day, we went to the National Zoo. We went there to commemorate what we did the day after our wedding the year previous. A year ago, after our wedding and the groom's dinner, we went and stayed up at Wolf Crest in Salt Lake City (SLC), the following morning we went to the Hogle Zoo (after stopping at the store to buy baby blue flip-flops for Jerry because he forgot to bring shoes). Even though it was an overcast day, we enjoyed our National Zoo visit, and returned home to let Danae rest so she could return to full health. Well that summarizes our celebrations!
