Sonnet XXII - O Shining Sun
O shining sun, how glad I’ll be to
see
Your rays reflected on my dear love’s face.
O moon, who casts your mirrored light toward me,
I stand and stretch my arms out to embrace
This blissful night of joyful ecstasy.
And then, from sky to sky and place to place,
I watch the planets move in harmony,
As they sustain a smooth and stately pace.
I wait and wait below that vault of sky,
And it’s a quiet and a stunning sight.
My dearest love is coming, so I stay
As motionless as stone. The hours go
by.
My lover does not come, and now it’s day.
My shining sun has grown as dark as night.
