Mostly bathrooms this time around, since they're finished up.

The library. As you can see, we used it as a work area for polyurethaning doors.

Our garage, currently full of furniture.

The downstairs bath.

Our clawfoot tub, in the master bath.

The master bathroom vanity.

The foyer, from the upstairs hall.

Some shots of our nearly-complete kitchen. The countertops will turn a dark grey when they're oiled down, but that won't happen until the last bit of work gets wrapped up. The island is covered in cardboard to protect the butcher block counters, and the glass is still off the lights, for the same reason.

The refrigerator and the rangetop.

The side opposite the rangetop, with the double-ovens (which aren't in the cabinets yet, and the wine fridge.

The sink wall.

A close-up of the rangetop and hood.

The back hallway, from the kitchen.

One of the audio system keypads (yes, this is in the kitchen.)

A few more random shots of things that got wrapped up this week.

The garage side of the house. This is a pretty good representation of the color scheme.

The main staircase.

A close-up of some of the main staircase balusters.

The dining room chandelier and ceiling medallion, minus the glass globes for the chandelier.

The library chandelier, also minus the glass.

The master bath, now with tile and wainscot. This is where the clawfoot tub will be installed.

Getting close! Here's a mix of interior and exterior shots showing the current state of the house.

Be sure to read today's Site Updates, since this web site will be moving soon...

The house from the front. Taken in the afternoon, so there's a shadow from the trees in front.

One of our exterior lights, this one by the kitchen door.

The kitchen seen from the hallway, with a pretty good view of the beadboard wainscot.

The current state of the kitchen, with our just-delivered refrigerator.

The dining room wainscot.

Our fireplace, now with mantel. It's still missing the marble surround and slate hearth, which should be in in a few weeks.

The floor in the downstairs bath, showing the still-incomplete base moulding and beadboard wainscot.

Just a few random shots this time around.

How Dennis spent his weekend -- on the boom lift.

Our macadam driveway.

The exterior gingerbread went up this week!

June 19rd, 2001

Here's a bunch of new pictures to show the progress inside and out. Some of the interior shots were taken in low light, so they're a little on the grainy side.

The house from the driveway. Notice that the porch balustrade is completed.

The house from the street.

The library, looking toward the hallway doors (left) and the family room pocket doors (right.)

The windows in the library turret. All the windows are still missing the apron (the piece under the sill.)

The foyer, from the front door. So far, only the newel posts for the main staircase are installed.

The windows in the master bedroom turret.

The upstairs hallway, as seen from the master bedroom door.

The porch, with completed balustrade and the final paint scheme. Check out the support posts!

June 3rd, 2001

Despite the rain, we got a lot of painting done inside this weekend, with a little help.

Dennis painting the second story of the foyer. That's the front door underneath the planks.

Kris' Dad, prepping for the second coat in the kitchen.

Dennis' uncle, Steve, going for a high spot in the back bedroom. Yes, his feet are off the ground.

Dennis' aunt, Janice, masking a ceiling.

Dennis' father painting the master bedroom. We're probably changing this color.

Trying out family room colors.

The turret, now complete with the finial.

May 20th, 2001

They've been working on the porch this week. Most of the mahogany is down for the deck, the beadboard ceiling is pretty much done, and we've started painting the permanent porch posts.

Looking down the porch toward the drive (yes, that's Kris in the truck.).

May 14th, 2001

Some pictures of blueboard and plaster, which is in progress.

Some of the kitchen and back hall.

The fireplace in the family room.

The front bedroom.

The back bedroom, facing the door. The attic drop down stairs will go in the large opening in the ceiling, the other openings are HVAC air returns.

May 5th, 2001

Pictures of the completed siding (aside from the porch, which happens later) and the insulation progress.

The house from the street.

The house from the driveway.

A close up of the turret.

The door side of the garage, showing the newly-installed Raynor doors.

The furnace chimney. Fortunately, this is only visible from the back yard.

Insulation in the utility room and kitchen.

The basement, showing the water tank (blue), the air handler for the first floor, the furnace, and the crate for our tub.

Exterior siding's almost done!

April 26th, 2001

With the chimney and my wiring wrapped up, here are some updated pictures.

Click on any of the pictures for a larger version.

The chimney, now complete with the actual metal chimney and spark arrestor.

Yes, that's a lot of wire.

April 15th, 2001

Just a few pictures this week -- most of the action has been on the inside of the house, and is pretty uninteresting to look at (like rough electrical wiring.)

Click on any of the pictures for a larger version.

The chimney, with the brick veneer applied. Looks pretty good for a fake, eh?. The actual chimney (which is metal) will look like a chimney cap on this chase.

The data/telephone/CATV panel, with some of the Category 5 wiring (about half, so far.)

April 8th, 2001

Another big batch of pictures!

Click on any of the pictures for a larger version.

The house from the street.

The house from the driveway.

The house from the back yard.

Close-up detail of some of the 'fish scale' shingles at the gable ends.

The well head. Note that the supply will be buried -- the idea is to put the water line deep enough that it will never freeze.

The service trench. The grey pipe is electrical conduit. This was filled with water last weekend.

Where the water line (and a lot of water) comes into the basement. Note the "plug."

The rough plumbing in the downstairs lav. See how everything is capped off? That's part of the leak test.

The other part of the leak test -- a pressure valve. I guess we're doing pretty well, as the reading hasn't changed in 24+ hours.

Our main staircase, minus the balustrade, which is installed at finish time.

The (uninstalled) cellar steps. These are actually a pretty nice southern yellow pine.

The master bath, including our tub (minus its feet.) The tub will be migrating back to the cellar shortly, both to prevent damage and to let other work (especially flooring) proceed.

Some tests of our audio system, a Russound A-Bus. This is a nifty little system, that, for about the price of a decent amplifier, plus speakers and a little Cat5 and speaker wire, sends audio to up to 4 rooms (per "head unit.") We'll have four rooms wired with sound this way. The glowing thing is the volume control keypad for one room.

March 25th, 2001

Big batch of pictures this time around!

The house from the street.

The house from the driveway.

We really like this corner trim detail (this is outside the first floor lav.)

The house from the back yard.

Another trim detail -- brick mould wrapping the window header (these aren't the final colors.)

The southeast corner of the house (the outside walls of the media room.)

The cellar, with some blown-in rainwater.

Kris, painting some brick mould.

This is the color that we're painting the brick mould. There will also be a highlight in the same brown as the window sash.

The kitchen, showing some of the rough plumbing.

What Dennis spent most of the weekend looking at.

March 17th, 2001

Major work on the house trim and clapboards got started yesterday, and continued this morning. For the first time, we see our color scheme coming together full-scale, and so far it's precisely what we expected!

I've also included a few shots of the leach field for the septic system, taken from the master bedroom window.

March 4th, 2001

Current exterior shots, plus the fireplace mantel. You can see the beginnings of our chimney chase at the top center of the roof. Don't worry -- this will get wrapped in brick soon.
