Background

Silvia was born in 1976 in Sao Paulo, to wealthy parents. Her father was a local politician of Brazilian/Japanese descent, who had managed to create a comfortable life for himself and his family during the period of the military government. This all started to come apart in the mid 1980's, as ARENA lost power. Silvia's Father was tried for corruption in 1986, and died of a stroke during the trial. The family was cast into (relative) poverty. This was Silvia's first glimpse of the great contrast of cities -- wealth, grandeur, poverty, and squalor.

Over the next decade, the family had several reversals of fortune, as assets were located, hidden away, seized, etc. In 1993, during a brief upswing in fortune, Silvia left home to stay with family friends in Tokyo. When things went bad (again!), she ended up working at a variety of menial jobs. [. need to finish -- involves lots of travel to cities throughout Asia and Europe, and seeing/experiencing the extremes]

[I will send more history shortly -- by the start of the game (modern -- 2003), Silvia is back in Sao Paulo. She has come into some wealth again (probably through the family), and is briefly living a life of leisure, while taking care of some family responsibilities].
