Thirteenth Annual Five Year Predictions
Well, it's that time again! (Sorry about the late start this year...) Time to enter your submissions for the twelfth annual 5-Year predictions.
Each September, starting in 1997, I've collected predictions from friends, family and colleagues
based on their inklings about what the near future holds.
The guidelines for submissions are fairly broad. Predictions can be based on any aspect of the
universe as it will have evolved over the next five years :) Past predictions have fallen into a
broad spectrum of categories including anticipated advances in technology, fashion, geo-political
boundaries, commercial success and failure and specific personal achievement.
My favourite example of the creativity that can be elicited through this exercise is a prediction
that within five years we will have been discovered by aliens who would have taken it upon
themselves to solve all of our problems.
This is of course one of the more outrageous predictions to have been submitted over the years.
Some of the others have dealt with the rise and fall of specific companies, governments and
political figures. There have also been predictions about the economy and the environment. A
popular area is of course technology, from medicine to robotics to communications.
By the time these predictions are finally revealed, they will have become more a commentary
about where we thought we were in '09 than where we wound up in '14.
So, have fun and don't hold back!
