Dowbiggin Monumental Inscriptions
The following are monumental inscriptions I have collected in
my travels and research.

Tatham, Lancashire
Inside Tatham Church:
-
To the memory of William Dowbiggin of Swans in this parish, who
died November 26th 1740, aged 51 years.
Also of Christopher his son, who died January 20th 1745, aged 28
years.
And also of Christopher his grandson, who died December 6th 1742,
aged 17 years.
Tatham Fells, Lancashire
In Tatham Fells Churchyard:

In memory of Betty, wife of Thomas Dowbiggin of
Stockbridge, Tatham, who died December 20th 1860, aged 70 years.
Also Thomas, her husband, who died May 29th 1862, aged 75 years.
Inside Tatham Fells Church:
Roll of Honour (Great War)
-
Laurence Lancelot Dowbiggin, 9th Batt. Royal Fusiliers.
Enlisted Nov. 1915. Trained at Shoreham & Long Camp -- Crossed to
France July 1916. Reported missing on Oct. 7 1916 after attack on
Gueudeeourt.
(There is also a monumental obelisk in Ivah, Tatham Fells, which lists the men on this Roll of Honour.)
High Bentham, North Yorkshire (formerly West Riding)
St. Margaret Churchyard:
- In loving memory of Lawrence Dowbiggin, passed away 31st
December 1943 in his 76th year,
and Evelina his wife, passed away 18th May 1948 in her 81st year.
- In loving memory of Thomas Dowbiggin of Southerscales,
Ingleton Fells, who died May 12th 1922, aged 79 years.
Also his wife Jane Elizabeth, who died September 23rd 1943, aged
78 years. "At Rest"
- In affectionate remembrance of Mary the beloved wife of
Richard Dowbiggin, of Newchurch, who died January 1st 1874,
aged 30 years.
Also of Richard their son who died January 18th 1874, aged 19 days.
Also Hannah, daughter of Richard and the late Mary
Dowbiggin, of Heightside, who died August 22nd 1878, aged 70 years.
- In loving memory of Thomas Dowbiggin of Mewith Head Hall who
died July 3rd 1893, aged 80 years.
Also Hannah his beloved wife, who died March 26th 1884, aged 73 years.
