Services provided by the Rehabilitation Centre for the Blind

1. The project provides free food, clothing, and shelter to visually impaired women.
2. Medical care is provided.
3. Monthly stipend and incentives for the work done is given to the trainees.
4. The Centre employs qualified teaching staffs for the benefit of the visually impaired.
5. Vocational training and help in finding employment is given.
6. Training is given in daily living skills, orientation and mobility skills. This enables the visually impaired women to go outdoors with confidence and poise and even be able to use public transport.
7. Communication skills such as Reading and Writing in Braille are taught. Basic Mathematics is also taught so that the women become capable of keeping personal accounts and balance the family budget.
8. Domestic skills such as cooking, washing, vegetable gardening and child rearing are taught.
9. The following vocational skills are taught.

1. Floor mat weaving
2. Bag and basket weaving with nylon wire
3. Broom stick making
4. Cot and chair seat weaving with nylon wire
5. Envelope making
6. Palm leaf work – making baskets, trays etc., with palm leaf
7. Candle making, both functional and ornamental
8. Making of detergent washing powders
9. Perfumed phenyl for household purposes
10. Making of incense sticks
11. Making of seasonal greeting cards with recycled cards
