The History of the Doberman Pinscher as Depicted Through Collectibles, Art and Literature Reviews Posted on Amazon.com 5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Read!, November 1, 2010: I bought this book as an identification guide, but ended up reading it from cover to cover. Lanier and Moore have really done their research. They include historical stories and anecdotes, manufacturer information, reproduction alerts, and more. No prices, so it is a purely historical reference manual. Each section takes the reader from the earliest to most recent known item in a particular medium - one can see how the breed has progressed and is viewed by both the art world and the media. Highly recommended. By Kweber1 5.0 out of 5 stars Great collection, October 31, 2010: This manual is very informative and helpful in understanding the history of Doberman and the people who love them. More information in one place then I have ever seen before, everything you wanted to know but didn't know where or who to ask, You have got to get one of these books if you love dog's and their history. By Michael S Bullinger 5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful read., October 28, 2010: As an avid reader, history buff and dog lover; I can confirm this book is magnificent. Not just a collection of photos and facts, but a chronological account that illustrates how the Doberman has not only been an important part of our history, but the many ways it has influenced it as well. The authors seek to share their unique understanding of and appreciation for the breed. By compiling a study of the variety of ways that Doberman Pinscher owners sought to publicize their love for their four legged companions. From paintings to sculpture, to literary tales they dispel the myth of the breed as being aggressive. Humans and canines have been living together for about 14,000 years. As the cynical Washington D.C. politician said "if you want someone to love you in this town, buy a dog," if you read this book and seek an intelligent loyal canine companion; all paths will lead to the Doberman Pinscher.
