Policies for Intermediate Algebra & Trigonometry

- Attendance Policy:
- You are expected to know what happens in a
class regardless of whether you attend or not. You are expected
to attend all tests. If you know you will be unable to attend
a
test, let me know beforehand, and I may be able to make arrangements
for you to take the test. If you miss a test, there will be a
make-up
time for all tests on Wednesday, Dec 16th at noon. Note, this is
the only time when a make-up may be taken. If you decide to take
a
make-up then, you must inform me during the week before the 16th.
Note, this
is only a one hour time slot so don't plan on taking more than
one test.
- Teaching Procedures:
- In general the class will be a
combination of lecture and in class practice. I will
present new material, give examples, ask questions,
and often give problems for students to try in class.
While the students are working, I will go around the
class to check on students' progress and give
individual help. When the students have finished
working on the problem, I will attempt to elicit
answers from the class. When asking for answers, I
will usually write down any answer given correct or
not and ask the proposers of the answers why they
believe their answer is correct to try to get the
students to see various problems that could be
encountered and to reason out what is correct and
why.
- Cellphone Policy:

I understand that you may need to have your cellphone available; however, I would ask that you set your cellphone on vibrate, and if you get a call you need to answer, quietly leave the room. Thank you for your consideration to the whole class.
- Disability Notice:
- Students with disabilities who believe that they may need accommodations in the classroom are encouraged to contact a disability counselor as soon as possible. - Grading Policy:
- As I said above, you are responsible for taking
all tests. I will drop one test, so if you miss a test, then that
will be your drop. If you miss more than one test, then the grade
you get on the final exam will be used as the grade on that (those)
test(s). In addition,, if the final exam grade is better than the
grade on a test, the final exam grade will be substituted for that
test grade.
- The above will count for 95% of your grade.
The other 5% will be determined by your class participation.
- You need not take the final if your average on all tests,
with no drops, is at least 90%.
