Mud Man Pots
Stoneware
Stoneware is clay in which the clay body and the glaze mature at
the same temperature and become integrated. There is a large range of
firing temperatures for stoneware; I choose to fire in the mid-range
described as Cone 6 (~2280F), using an electric kiln. Firing in this
range allows for predictable glaze behavior in producing
oven/microwave-safe, functional pots.
The type of clay body affects the finish as significantly as the
glaze. I prefer clay with a higher level of grog to add a tactile and
visual element to the pot. These pots are made to be held and to be
used.
