Doodlebugs Academy has been a standard for early childhood learning in the Whidbey Island community for over 6 years. Complete with a preschool, full time kindergarten, and now with the approval from the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (the agency that oversees public and private education in the state of Washington) to teach first and second grade, our facility has always excelled in providing quality education for our families' multi-aged children.

With the creation and implementation of the Early Learning and Developmental Benchmarks, the State of Washington has provided a clear set of academic expectations for every child prior to their enrollment in kindergarten. Doodlebugs Academy uses this framework to assist in planning quality curriculum by identifying the skills (indicators) needed to maximize the potential for school success and promote a smooth transition to the next grade level; whether it be preschool, kindergarten, first, second or third grade.

This summer, OSPI has formally adopting the Common Core State Standards for English language arts and mathematics. Doodlebugs Academy will will officially begin the process to introduce these standards into the classrooms this coming school year (2011).

With a small group environment, Doodlebugs Academy is able to give the one on one attention which can best be provided in a small classroom setting. This enables Doodlebugs Academy to focus on basic school readiness skills with each child to ensure they will move on to the next grade level feeling confident.
