As a part of the A3D (African Development Through Drums And Dance) group trip to Goree Island, off the West Coast of Africa (Senegal), the group explored playing drums and examined how drums and stringed instruments are made among the Sengalese people. The drums have spiritual, physical and musical dimensions. African music provides a foundation for much of American music, including Jazz, Blues, Rock & Roll, R&B, Hip-Hop. The Caribbean and Latin-American cultures also share roots with the African drums, strings and beats. A3D uses the drums and dance to bring people together and bridge cultural gaps. Dottie's drumming is another way she expresses her creativity and spirituality.
