It all started with the Double Dare 2000 Audition Tour in Rhode Island...

Here's what the patriarch of the Roos Family had to say when they first won...

"We auditioned with about 140 families at the Warwick Mall in
Warwick, RI.  Didn't think we'd have a chance and we're shocked
as heck when we won the whole salami. :)"

The whole salami and then some - man, they could start their own deli! Recently,
The Roos Family was in Orlando, Florida for their taping of
Double Dare 2000 at
Nickelodeon Studios. I don't want to ruin any surprises, but they did very well
in their quest for Green Slime!

Here are some pics from their family website (www. RoosFamily.com)
of what they looked like coming out of the
DD2K Audition Tour...

Many thanks goes to Phil Roos and the Roos Family for providing all the great
information and supplying the photos of their Double Dare 2000 Experience!

Here's what they look like clean...

If you've wondered exactly what happens when a family is chosen to be on the show from
the audition tour...here are some excerpts from emails sent by the dad himself, Phil Roos:

May 21, 2000

As far as strategy...it's all about watching the 'training vidos' (daily
shows) I suppose.  Getting the laydown of the challenges, etc.  Our "GRAND
STRATEGY" though is to have fun.  As far as I'm concerned, our goal was met
when we won t-shirts in round 1. :)  Everything since then and in July is
pure gravy.  Talk about bringing the family together!!  We've gotten a lot
tighter because we all have a common goal and interest - the show!

This is what we've received so far:
(1) Prizes:  T-shirts for making the final-8, Nice ballcaps for the
final-4, Awesome tour jackets ($100) for the final round, and the 3-day,
2-night trip to Orlando for the Grand Prizes.
(2) Once we won, we received a packet of obligatory paperwork that needed
to be sent to Oasis Productions (the contracted agent for NICK conducting
the Tour).  This included:
(a) A winner information travel form:  lodging requirements, airport locations, etc
(b) A waiver of liability/affidavit of eligibility and release for each
person.  Each person had to have a form on file and each needed
notarization.
(c) IRS Form W-4 - needed to process money and other prizes we will
receive as part of the trip.
(3) We've been told that once the forms are processed that we will be
notified when the show will tape, etc and additional pertinent details.
I've emailed the point of contact to see if I can get details now.  I'm an
officer in the U.S. Navy and need as much lee time as possible to help in
planning the next couple of months.

Just got an email from our point of contact at Oasis productions.
Filming will take place from July 6 - 21.  That was a couple of days ago.
I'm looking at my schedule now.  Nice and tight.

I'm so excited, I'm beside myself.  It's such a great family memory for us
all to make together.  If we got a call tomorrow saying it was off, we'd
walk away with big smiles.  The memories have been made.  :)

June 8, 2000

Got a call from Lena at Nick who offered us dates:  8,9,10,11,13,14,16 July.
Depending on what the Navy's going to do with me, dictates what days we
choose.  Looks like to be on the safe side, we'll choose the weekend days!!!
I'll let you know!

July 4, 2000

We're flying in to Orlando this Friday and will tape the show on Sunday!!! Wish us luck!!!  We're excited and can't wait.  We even have a family
entourage flying with us.  The folks at Nick were very accomodating and
helped us arrange extra travel arrangements for the additional family
coming with us.
We're just north of LA at the moment and will fly out of LAX to Florida.
Today we got our rule book and tickets and I think we're all set!!

July 13, 2000 - DON'T READ THIS IF YOU LIKE SURPRISES!!!

We made it back safe and sound!!  And we won.  Here's a run down.

We're extremely happy with our success.  We won both toss ups (Hedgehog and
Donuts) and did both physical challenges (Oil Well and Wedding Cake)
Although we were confident we could pull off the Triple Dare, we opted not
to be greedy.  If we screwed that up, we would have only had a marginal
lead.  We finished up at 650 to 150.

The course was as follows:
- The computer
- The Gak Vat
- Baked Alaska Pipeline
- Kid Squisher
- Kiddie Car Wash
- Hampster Wheel
- Nose
- Pizza Slice

My youngest son kicked it off and was a little slow on the the computer (10
secs) but then I made up for time and launched over the gak vat to the flag
(slime fell behind me!!!).

All in all, it was an amazing experience.  We had fun and the memories will
last a lifetime!!

Here are some GREAT PICTURES of the Roos' adventure at Double Dare 2000...

Double Dare 2000 host Jason Harris enjoys a bite to eat with the Roos Family!

Every contestant on Double Dare 2000 receives a free

the official shoe of Double Dare because 'life is not
a spectator sport.'"
