1    JABEZ ⁵ DORMAN [# 5050] s/o JABEZ ⁴ DORMAN( JABEZ ³, THOMAS ², THOMAS ¹) and HANNAH LOOK was born at ? abt 1744; died at Harrington ME aft 1820; married at ? bef 1769 Mary ⁶ Godfrey [Milliken], d/o Benjamin Godfrey and Olive Wilson;

Jabez was born at Arundel Me [see Thomas Dorman of Topsfield, Mass by Franklin Abbott Dorman, Heritage Books, 1994].

James Milliken in Narraguagus Valley says that Jabez moved from Kennebunk to Lynch Hill at the Mill River section of Harrington ME about 1757. As the Dorman genealogy points out, this seems unlikely as Jabez would only have been age 12 or 13 at that time. As the following shows, it is more likely that Jabez was still at Arundel in 1771.

On 4 Mar 1771, Ichabod Willee of Naraguagus, millwright, sold to Samuel Plummer of Gardinerstown "100 acres of land in Narraguagus upon a mill stream near Knox's mill with a dwelling house on the same..." [LCD 8:149, also BHM Pg 1257]. Samuel Plummer sold the same land to Jabez Dorman Jr of Arundel 22 Jul 1771 [LCD 8:151, also BHM pg 1257].

Among his other services during the Revolution, Jabez was a sergeant in Capt John Hall's company from 7 Aug to 7 Sep 1779 on an expedition to Majorbagaduce.

All but the first child of Jabez are listed in the Harrington ME birth records.

2    BENJAMIN ⁶ DORMAN [# 4491] s/o JABEZ ⁵ DORMAN and MARY ⁶ GODFREY was born at Kennebunk ME 15 Aug 1771 [HarrBR]; died at Beddington ME 18 Jan 1854 [gs]; married at Machias ME 9 Nov 1794 Eliza ⁵ Weston [Milliken; HarrMR], d/o Josiah Weston and Hannah Watts; Benjamin is buried at Beddington Cemetery, Beddington ME

"The Black papers", Maine Genealogist, state that Benjamin settled in Columbia ME 1794, was age 26 in 1798 and that he had 2 in his family. On 20 Dec 1796, Jabez bought land in Harrington ME from David Merritt. On 20 Mar 1806 he bought two tracts of 500 acres each from his father. Jabez remained in Harrington until about 1841.

After his wife died, Jabez moved to Beddington ME to live with his son Israel.

All 9 of Benjamin & Eliza's children are in the Harrington ME birth records.

3    EPHRAIM ⁶ DORMAN [# 5344] s/o JABEZ ⁵ DORMAN and MARY ⁶ GODFREY was born at Harrington ME 12 Jul 1777 [HarrBR]; died at Harrington ME 1860 [gs]; married at ? 13 Nov 1801 Abigail ⁶ Wilson [Milliken], d/o Gowen Wilson and Abigail Ingersoll; Ephraim is buried at Forest Hill Cemetery, Harrington ME

Ephraim was one of 1st settlers at Brook Hill in Harrington where he lived all his life as a farmer. See "The Black papers", Maine Genealogist, which says he settled in Columbia 1797, was age 24 in 1798 and had 1 in his family.

Ephraim was at Harrington (1790-1800), Columbia (1810), and Harrington (1820-1860).

In 1828, Ephraim was a one-sixteenth owner of the schooner Commodore Perry out of Machias ME.

His will was dated 21 Oct 1857 [WCPR 21:418]. He left 25 acres of the homestead to his unmarried son Wilson and 10 acres to his unmarried daughter Martha. The remaining 60-70 acres went to his youngest son Ephraim P.

All of Ephraim's 8 children are in the Harrington ME birth records.

4    SAMUEL ⁶ DORMAN [# 6879] s/o JABEZ ⁵ DORMAN and MARY ⁶ GODFREY was born at Harrington ME 24 Sep 1781 [HarrBR]; died at Cherryfield ME 24 Nov 1861; married (1) at Cherryfield ME 24 Mar 1804 Ruth Kingsley [Milliken; ChfTR], d/o Samuel Kingsley and Phebe Wakefield; married (2) at Steuben ME 18 Sep 1842 [marriage int filed at Steuben ME 3 Sep 1842] Thankful Gibbs [ChfTR], d/o Sylvanus Gibbs and Thankful Pope;

Marriage intentions filed at Cherryfield 23 Sep 1842.

Samuel bought land in Cherryfield from his father-in-law, Samuel Kingsley, 24 Apr 1811.

Samuel died intestate. His widow, Thankful, requested that the court appoint David G Dorman, a nephew, as administrator of the estate [WCPR 11:307]. On 6 Jan 1862, son David Dorman, daughter Orpha Sears and granddaughters Ellen Robinson & Julia Higgins requested that the estate be sold and divided [WCPR 11:314].

Samuel lived at Harrington [1810] and Cherryfield [1820-1860].

5    JOSIAH WESTON ⁷ DORMAN [# 6889] s/o BENJAMIN ⁶ DORMAN and ELIZA ⁵ WESTON was born at Harrington ME 6 Jan 1798 [HarrBR]; died at ? 6 Jun 1883; married at Harrington ME 1 Sep 1825 [marriage int filed at Harrington ME 20 May 1825] Sophia W ⁶ Farnsworth [HarrMR], d/o Asa Farnsworth and Betsey Weston;

Josiah lived at Harrington [1830-1840], Milbridge [1850] and moved to Kingston MN by 1860 where he died [Meeker Cem records].

Josiah's 1st 7 children are listed in the Harrington birth records. Two more children were born in MN.

6    ISRAEL ⁷ DORMAN [# 5404] s/o BENJAMIN ⁶ DORMAN and ELIZA ⁵ WESTON was born at Harrington ME 20 Mar 1801 [BeddBR; HarrBR]; died at ? Sep 1878; married at Cherryfield ME 6 May 1824 [marriage int filed at Harrington ME 1 Mar 1824] Joanna Kingsley, d/o Samuel Kingsley and Phebe Wakefield;

Israel lived and farmed at Beddington ME until about 1857 when he moved to MN with his brothers and five of his children. He died in MN.

7    NATHANIEL ⁷ DORMAN [# 5390] s/o BENJAMIN ⁶ DORMAN and ELIZA ⁵ WESTON was born at Harrington ME 5 Jun 1804 [BeddBR; HarrBR]; died at Kingston MN 4 Feb 1890; married (1) at ? [marriage int filed at Cherryfield ME 5 Jun 1828] Phebe Spears ³ Schoppe, d/o John Schoppe and Elsie Weston; married (2) at ? Nathaniel married 3rd Louisa M (Perry) Childs. He moved to MN with other Dormans in the late 1850s and died at Kingston MN. His eldest son, John, remained in ME but followed to MN at a later date.

8    COLIN ⁷ DORMAN [# 6895] s/o BENJAMIN ⁶ DORMAN and ELIZA ⁵ WESTON was born at Harrington ME 9 Jan 1813 [HarrBR]; died at Sheboygan Falls WI 5 Dec 1893; married at ? bef 1842 Priscilla ⁶ Farnsworth, d/o Asa Farnsworth and Betsey Weston;

Colin moved to Sheboygan Falls WI about 1855 where he died.

David was a carpenter at Cherryfield ME.

EPRF gives Leonard's birth date as 8 May 1808 at Cherryfield ME.

From 1831 to 1835, Leonard was a one-sixteenth investor and part owner of the schooner Independence out of Machias ME.

11   EPHRAIM PERKINS ⁷ DORMAN [# 6904] s/o EPHRAIM ⁶ DORMAN and ABIGAIL ⁶ WILSON was born at Harrington ME 20 Dec 1819 [HarrBR]; died at Harrington ME 6 Nov 1904 [HarrDR]; married at Harrington ME 20 Nov 1853 [marriage int filed at Harrington ME 10 Nov 1853] Frances M ⁸ Ramsdall, d/o Freedom Ramsdall and Eunice Look; Ephraim is buried at Forest Hill Cemetery, Harrington ME

Ephraim was a private in Capt Burnham's company of light infantry which mustered in at Calais ME 3 Mar 1939 during the Aroostook War. He also served in the 22nd ME Volunteer Infantry for 9 months during the Civil War. On 3 Aug 1866, he applied for and received a pension from the government [Certificate #78366] which passed to his widow at his death [Certificate #600976].

From 1858 to 1897, Ephraim had a 1/16th or 1/32nd share in various ships from Machias ME including the brig CB Allen and the schooners Augusta, Harmon Curtis, Julia, Rio and Winner.

Ephraim was appointed a federal marshall for the purpose of census taking. Many of the Washington County census returns for 1870 have his signature.

12   DANIEL WAKEFIELD ⁷ DORMAN [# 6907] s/o SAMUEL ⁶ DORMAN and RUTH KINGSLEY was born at Steuben ME 1 Oct 1807 [StbnBR; ChfTR]; died at St Anthony MN 8 Jun 1859; married at Ellsworth ME 27 Sep 1836 [marriage int filed at Cherryfield ME 4 Sep 1836] Mary Elizabeth Jordan d/o ? and ?;

Danel was a blacksmith at Cherryfield, Washington County Register of Deeds 1850 and Collector of Customs in the port of Machias 1853-1857 [History of Machias, p582]. He also was a 1/8th owner of the schooner Cameo from 1849-1853.

Daniel died at St Anthony's Falls MN, apparently while visiting some of his cousins.

13   ENOCH G ⁷ DORMAN [# 17889] s/o SAMUEL ⁶ DORMAN and RUTH KINGSLEY was born at Cherryfield ME 24 Mar 1816 [ChfTR]; died at Cherryfield ME abt 1851; married at Machias ME 10 Feb 1843 [marriage int filed at Cherryfield ME 24 Jan 1843] Lydia Jane Clark [ChfTR; MachMR], d/o Samuel Phillips Clark and Lydia Smith;

Enoch's Cherryfield intention is recorded as both 21 Jan 1843 and 24 Jan 1843.

Enoch was a blacksmith at Machias ME in 1850.

Enoch's death date is from Washington County Probate records. His estate consisted primarily of two acres of land in Cherryfield ME [WCPR 17:255]. Lydia was appointed guardian of the two minor heirs of Enoch [WCPR 18:424]. Stephen Longfellow was appointed guardian of one child, Henrietta, on 8 Jan 1857 and he and Henrietta are living together at Machias in 1860 suggesting that Lydia and the other child, Maria, had died by then.

14   STEPHEN HILL ⁸ DORMAN [# 6911] s/o JOSIAH WESTON ⁷ DORMAN and SOPHIA W ⁶ FARNSWORTH was born at Harrington ME 26 May 1826 [HarrBR]; died at French Lake MN 14 Oct 1890; married at ? 9 Jul 1851 [marriage int filed at Harrington ME 21 Jun 1851] Abigail B ⁷ Buzzell, d/o Daniel Buzzell and Rebecca Small;

Stephen's marriage intention was also recorded at Milbridge 9 Jul 1851.

Stephen moved to Kingston MN with his father by 1860 and shortly thereafter French Lake MN where he lived and died.

Benjamin moved from Harrington ME to Kingston MN about 1856, then moved about 1877 to Washington State.

Benjamin's 1st marriage was at Harrington ME by OS Plummer, JP; his 2nd marriage at Kingston MN; his 3rd marriage to Martha D Wilson; his 4th marriage to Melissa (Leighton) Dorman.

Benjamin died at Tumwater WA.

Lewis moved to Corcoran MN with his father about 1856. He probably at Corcoran MN.

John was of Beddington ME in 1852. By 1866 he moved to Kingston MN, following the rest of the Dormans, and died at Kingston MN.
