she has been abused and mistreated and he's been told to hand her over to the bad guys.

"Opening her eyes, she met his gaze. The color of his dark brown eyes had deepened to almost black. Beneath her hand, the thump-thump remained steady, but tension had crept into his body.

Finally she pulled her hand away and wrapped her arms around her knees once again.

'You know what I think?' she said, alternately confused and accepting of what was happening between them.

'I don't care what you think,' Mick replied, still obviously struggling to convince her that he was dangerous.

'I think you're  a White Hat, only you're afraid to admit it because you won't  be able to control people if they think you might actually have a heart.'

She'd learned about fear and control from her father. She understood it well.

Amazingly he saw past her words to the emotion which drove her. 'Not all control is bad, Cat. And you will do what I tell you.'

On some level, she knew he only meant well. That he wanted to protect her and his sister and anyone else who came under his charge. But she struggled to be free for too long. She had lost that precious freedom at Wardwell and she'd be damned it that happened again.

'We'll see,' she said."

Famous cellist  Caterina Shaw is dying of a brain tumor and when the pain becomes too much to bear, she agrees to experimental treatment. Six months later, mercenary Mick Carrera is called upon to do a very private job from a doctor. It would seem that a patient had gone berserk and torn apart another doctor in the lab and this doctor wants her tracked down and found - dead or alive. And Mick does find her, but with disturbing marks that show she has been abused and nearly starved to death. Because of her superhuman strength, she is tied down and Mick calls in his doctor sister to treat her.

Altho he thinks to eventually give her to the doctor who hired him, he finds the longer he is around her, the bigger the mystery becomes. He and his sister find out a few things as the woman slowly gets better. One is that she has a number of hallucinating drugs inside her. She has superhuman strength. And she has obviously been injected with experimental drugs that has her able to change the color of her skin at will and sense odd happenings now and then. Then Mick discovers he isn't the only one who has been hired to track her down. The more he investigates, the more everything smells. And the danger to all increases and becomes deadly.

I can hardly wait for the next in this exciting new series to come out. This is as good as paranormal gets! I didn't understand all the medical explanations, but that's ok. And the rescue near the end was confusing geography. That doesn't matter either. What matters is the excellent plot and characters. Wow! You've gotta read this!
