Don't Let Go
Grand Central paperback, 296 pages. 2008. “’Listen,’ he added, his voice turning low and seductive. ‘I have a thought. Why don’t you spend the night on the houseboat? You could sleep in one of the bunks downstairs with Silas.’ ‘No,’ she said quickly cutting him off. ‘This isn’t for me,’ he insisted. ‘It’s for Silas. That way I wouldn’t have to wake him so early like you said. You could tutor him, take him shopping, get him ready for school.’ And you could rent that condo to that couple that so desperately needed it. ‘No,’ she repeated, but it made too much sense, She could even pay her bills off with their first month’s rent and deposit. ‘Jordan, I won’t pressure you to sleep with me if that’s what you want to hear,’ he surprised her by adding. She frowned, sensing a trap. ‘Really,’ she scoffed. ‘I promise,’ he purred with far too much confidence. He thinks I’ll cave in to my desire and beg for it, she realized. Well, wouldn’t it be a blow to his ego to call the bluff? God, she couldn’t believe she was actually considering living on a houseboat! ‘I’ll think about it,’ she relented, withholding her final answer. ‘Right now my sister needs me, and family comes first.’ She got deep
satisfaction out of hanging up on him.” Jordan Bliss is dramatically rescued by Navy SEALs deep inside Venezuela, but her soon-to-be-adopted son, Miquel, is wrenched from her arms and forced to stay behind. Safe once more and out of that war-torn country, Jordan is soon making plans to return and complete the adoption and bring Miquel back home with her. Navy SEAL Solomon McGuire, who commanded that rescue, soon finds himself in desperate need of a tutor and nanny when he finds his long-lost young son. His wife had left him and taken him away. Now she is dead and the woman who has cared for Silas is returning him back to his father. He convinces Jordan to help him, although she knows she will be returning to that dangerous country in a few more weeks. Jordan and Solomon give in to the strong sexual attraction they have been feeling, but one day he finds she has left to find her Miquel and he is frantic to find and help her.
This is a strong, suspenseful action-packed story - very intense and exciting in places. The sex is appropriately strong as well. There’s more than one story between the covers and Melton cleverly interweaves a few other character’s adventures into this plot. There’s so much to recommend. Can’t wait for the next in this superior SEALs series. Melton is just great and each story seems better than the last, if that’s possible.
