For as long as anyone can remember, there has been a covered bridge at the Milo Academy crossing of the Umpqua River. There have been several incarnations, the current one being quite unique in Oregon. It is a steel girder bridge housed in wood to preserve the memory of the wooden structures which it has superseded. The 100 ft. span which serves the Seventh Day Adventist boarding school was built in 1962 to replace a wooden structure.
Take highway 227 from Interstate 5ís Canyonville/Days Creek exit and follow it to the bridge.
