Norse Mythology

I'll Meet You Halfway To Heaven

Odin

Odin is the All-Father or Sky-Father, the head of the Norse Pantheon. He represents intelligence, silence, wisdom, and adeptness at magick. He has only one eye because he gave his right eye for knowledge.  He also hung alone on a tree for nine days and nine nights to gain wisdom.  He roamed accompanied only by a pair of wolves and a pair of ravens.  His eight-legged steed, Sleipnir, represents Time.   The ravens, Huginn and Muninn, bring him back news from all of his domain.

The Calling of the Grey Wanderer

O far traveling, Sky-Cloaked Wanderer
From the far, ancient lands,
We call to you across mountain and forest,
 And the far, limitless grasslands;
We call to you across distant time,
And a hundred hundred slow turnings
Of the vast spindle of the sky.
We call to you in lands of mystery
Where ravens wheel in darkling skies,
And the far calling of wolves,
Echoing eldritch through crisp night wind,
Brings close the strange far worlds
Where humankind never has trod.
We call to you beyond the distant icy tundra
And the vast plains of snow
Beneath the unearthly rippling and flowing
Of the dark northern skies' boreal lights,
To the golden gates of far Valhall
Where the shimmering bridge of rainbow
Links the dark Middle Earth of men
With the shining realms of the Gods.
Come to us now and be with us here,
Great Odin!

Thor

Thor, Odin's best friend, was often more popular than the Grey One himself.  Thor is a protector and sends thnder, lightning, and rain.  He is fond of farms, fields, forests, mountains, and streams.  He has a good sense of humour and is armed with the hammer Mjolnir.  Thor rewards hard work.

Wild Hunt

Fire dances

Midnight nears

Samhain night has come

Sleipnir prances

Moonlight tears

A single note is sung

Death comes ready

Barking din

The Wild Hunt’s begun

Stand there steady

Strength within

Join them in their song

Mount a stallion

Swift and sleek

Ride into the night

Night’s battalion

Scorns the weak

Ride, or hide from sight

The pack is howling

Ride along

The blood begins to pound

The Hunt is prowling

Swift as song

Thunders over silent ground

Do not flee

Don’t hesitate

Or you will surely die

Beneath the Tree

You face your fate

Mount your horse and fly

Loki

Loki is a Trickster God, a God of Chaos, with both good and bad aspects.  Loki's aspects are humour, wit, questioning, pranks, parodies- and the dark side of each.  Loki is the child side in each of us.

Odin

Open to the darkness

Gaze into the black

Another is among you

One you cannot track

He wears a cloak of silver

And a sword of shining steel

And the red-eyed hounds of Hel

Run nipping at his heels

There comes a crack of lightning

As he rides beyond the dawn

And as the lightning strikes

He shivers and is gone.

So rides the Huntsman King

And all his hounds of death

As the stormsky sings

And draws its final breath...
