Flexion Distraction (aka Cox technic)

Originally developed to correct ruptured discs, a special table allows gentle, specific, and highly effective work on the joints of the lower back. Acute lower back pain which cannot be treated with conventional adjustments can be relieved with this technique. You don’t have to have a ruptured disc to benefit- it works well on all lower back conditions.

You may recently have heard advertisements about a new machine that's supposed to be the latest and greatest solution to lower back pain. It is actually a very expensive mechanical traction machine. The trouble is that it does the traction while lying on your back, while the research they cite was done in a face-down position- the way we do it here.

The additional advantage in this method is that I'm able to apply the traction very specifically, while getting feedback about what exactly is happening through my fingers. This allows much better correction in a much shorter period of time.

• Gentle care for hot low backs   When you can hardly walk or move with acute low back pain, the last thing you want is to be handled roughly. The flexion distraction table bends in the middle to allow effective adjustment using leverage, not a lot of force.
• Reducing disk bulge  The table allows Dr. Benson to create a negative pressure within a bulging or partially ruptured disk, effectively "sucking" the displaced disk material back into position.
• Correcting joint motion   Dr. Benson can evaluate the lumbar joints one by one, and correct their motion using the leverage of the table.
