I use aspects of this broad technique for the correction of the pelvis and sacroiliac joints, as well as some techniques for the internal organs.
If the pelvis is not aligned properly, it's like having the foundation under your house not level. Nothing else that's sitting on that foundation is going to be relating to gravity properly. There will be excessive pressure on the sacroiliac joints, which will become inflamed and make it hard to stand up straight- or put on your socks.
My cranial work is also informed by a wonderful SOT seminar I attended while in school. The instructor (Mark Pick, DC) assembled a flexible plastic skull from the individual bones, all the while discussing and demonstrating the motions of the bones in relation to one another.
The SOT organization web site has a very nice explanation of SOT for patients, as well as extensive resources about the technique.
