Earth's
natural resources are being depleted with each passing decade. As technology
becomes more advanced, it is imperative that new resources be sought out
in other parts of our solar system. Planet Promete
(Pro-meh-tay ), the 10th planet in our solar system, is that new world.
Much like our green Earth, Promete is vital for the survival of the human
race.
A team of four astronauts lead by Colonel Dantetsu Ichimonji (Colonel Blackstar in Force Five) is the first to set out for planet Promete. The rocket carrying four spacecraft takes off as Ichimonji's young boy Takuma watches on from the base. Also present at the take-off are Doctors Oedo and Doppler. All was going well as the rocket took off... However, Doppler's true intentions have finally surfaced. Doppler wants Promete for himself and his race. He makes this abundantly clear (in front of the entire project staff, including a horrified Takuma) as the Promete rocket leaves Earth's atmosphere. Oedo is beside himself. Just moments ago everyone was celebrating a triumphant launch of the Promete rocket together. Now Doppler was indeed showing his true evil motives.
As the Promete rocket leaves Earth's atmosphere something goes horribly wrong. After the four spacecraft detach from the rocket during its final stage, Spacecraft #1 suddenly breaks formation and destroys Spacecraft #2. The others were all lost as the base lost contact. Everyone watching on from the Promete (project) Base is in shock except for Doppler who watches on with a maniacal grin. Promete spacecraft #1 was Ichimonji's ship! Everyone at the base pointed the finger at young Takuma and labeled him the traitor's son. This would emotionally wound Takuma for years to come...
Ten Years Later...Takuma is now grown up and the race for Promete is back on. He has joined Professor Oedo's new Promete Project at Jasdam Base where construction of the Danguard Ace super robot has begun. Oedo raised Takuma as Colonel Ichimonji has been lost since the first Promete incident. Takuma is now determined more than ever to someday be a good enough pilot for the Danguard Ace and redeem his family honor.
Doppler is also still determined to launch for Promete. In his arrogance, he has self-proclaimed himself "Doppler Soto" (often translated as Chancellor Doppler). He sends Mecha-Satans( his own brand of super attack robots) to destroy the Jasdam Base and to completely ruin Oedo's Promete Project. One particular Mecha-Satan attacks and Takuma (in a rash manner) takes off in a fighter plane to fight it off. He doesn't fair very well as a mysterious unknown fighter plane shows up. The mysterious fighter shows extraordinary flying skills and forces Takuma's plane down on a nearby island (without firing a shot, mind you). Takuma catches a glimpse of the pilot and he is wearing a Doppler Corps. uniform and a steel mask. The masked man then destroys the mecha-satan with ease. It turns out that this masked pilot knew that Takuma was no match for the Mecha-Satan and he forced Takuma down for his own good.
Days later, the masked man lands at Jasdam base to help fight the Doppler Corps. But who is he? The steel mask is actually a slave mask that controls the mind of its wearer. He is called "Mr. X " for the time being. Dr. Tanuki uses a mind probing device to find that his memory has in fact been erased. On the video monitor of this mind probing device; it starts out that Mr. X accidentally broke off the obedience antenna on his mask and regained his own will but not his memory (the mask was designed so that it could not be removed). He escaped from a Doppler slave station (which orbited the moon) and found his way to Jasdam. The probe also revealed that the fighter plane that Mr. X escaped in was in fact constructed out of parts recycled from the original Promete rocket! Is Mr.X one of the original four pilots of the 1st Promete Project?
Due to his expert flying, Mr. X is brought in by Dr. Oedo to train the pilots for Danguard Ace. He is now called "Captain Dan." But what of Takuma? He now has this masked man training him to fly the Danguard Ace, his past haunting him with the possibility of this man being from his father's command of 10 years ago, and the Danguard training is going to show him the true meaning of physical and mental stress! Will Takuma Ichimonji's haunting past hold him back or will he persevere and earn his rightful place in piloting the Danguard Ace? The Promete Project, Earth, and the redemption of his family honor all depend on it!
