Welcome To Daniel Multiple Panda Cam Feeds Web Pages
You Have Arrived At:Additional Information
How The Cam Page Works:
The working of this site is not very complicated. All 4 zoo's have live webcams (2 for the National Zoo) for the pandas. Each cam has a static URL (does not change) In the case of the National and Atlanta Zoo, the zoo limits the viewing time for there webcam to 15 mins for the National Zoo and 10 mins for the Atlanta Zoo, to allow more people to view the cam. So after approximately 15 mins, the 2 National Zoo cams will automatically refresh without affecting the rest of the cams same goes for the Atlanta cam but those refresh at approximately 10 mins (except on the no auto-refresh page). The San Diego, and Memphis cams do not have the 15 min limit on viewing, therefore they do not need to be refreshed. Each cam is a separate page, embedded in the cam page via the iFrame tag. That's it
Page Requirements
This site works and looks best with Mozilla Firefox at a resolution of 1024 x 768.
Java Script must be enabled on your browser. Make sure no extensions or add-ons will disable Java Script (Like the NoScript extension for Firefox)
Please Note: If you are getting 2 of the same cams, not getting the Atlanta cam, pages not rendering properly, etc....., you may need to clear your cache. Instructions on how to do this can be found here. For more information on why you have to do this please see the April 11, 2008 update(s) on my site updates page
Important Information About The Webcams
The cams are in the following order (left to right) >>>>> National (#1), National (#2), Atlanta, San Diego, Memphis
The process of updating/remove the Atlanta cam is not automatic, this is done by me. Since I am not always at the computer around at 10am (EST) and/or 5pm (EST). I may be delayed in adding/removing the cam. If I know that I will not be able to add/remove the cam, I will put up a message under announcements (Unforeseen circumstances excluded)
If I cannot update my page at 10am (EST) you can view the Atlanta cam on their website
Atlanta Zoo:
The Atlanta Zoo feed is only available Monday - Friday from 10am - 5pm EST
The Zoo Atlanta feed shuts off after 15 minutes. Both cams will automatically refresh after 10 minutes
Once the Atlanta Cam is off-line, the whole cam window will be removed instead of removing the URL. When the Atlanta Cam is back the cam window will be restored
National Zoo:
The National Zoo cams are the only ones that have sound as for as I know
The National Zoo feed shuts off after 15 minutes. Both cams will automatically refresh after 15 minutes
Chengdu China:
These cams "time out" at 5 minutes, so the Refresh Rate is set at 4 minutes and 15 seconds. These cams may have spotty outages. Also, the "frame rate" is considerably slower than regular streaming media (like the USA Panda Cams), and the cam is set at a slower rate causing the images to jump in what I describe in a "claymation" motion. This appears to be normal for these cams
Also remember that China time is: UTC/GMT +8 hours, to see the local time go here. (opens in a new window/tab)
The National, Memphis, and San Diego zoos' feeds are available 24 hrs a day. Unless technical difficulties arise
Even though the cams are on 24 hrs a day; there is not always someone operating the cam. As long as the clock on the cam in running, the cam is live. (except the Zoo Atlanta cam).
If you get a error along the lines of "Sorry, the page you were looking for could not be found.". That is a issues with Comcast's servers. My sites is up for 24 hours a day/7 days a week unless I am doing maintenance in which case I will put up a message
All the cams except San Diego can be viewed in full screen
The San Diego cam has no controls available
Some of the cams may have spotty outages
You may have to press play on the window(s) to get the cams started
